Damian Lillard - Our best PG hope

I saw a mock draft that had us getting the GS pick and our own, and had us picking Rivers and Marshall.
Rivers was taken with Lillard still on the board.

Just an fyi, not that it means anything.

If the Blazers are on the clock at around #7 I think they will grab him (provided that Beal is off the board by then). Those Blazers they manage to F**** us up every single time.

I think we're realistically looking at Marshall vs Rivers all over again.

Assuming the Jazz get the GS pick, Portland is set to pick before them, likely at 6 or 7 (Jazz will most likely be 8). If Portland is sitting at 7, there is a good chance they pick Lillard. If they are at 6, there is a much greater chance someone else drops that they like. 3 scenarios where he could drop to the Jazz in my mind (all of which include Jazz getting the GS pick). 1. Beal drops 2. Barnes drops (although they might still take Lillard). 3. NJ gets into the lottery (this might be what we need to even get the GS pick).

Our best PG hope

Well, he's somebody's best PG hope, just not necessarily OURS! It continually amazes me that you guys pick out a player and assume that the Jazz can have him if they want him. This is just mental masturbation. Might be nice if it comes true but is unlikely to actually HAPPEN.

If Portland picks Lillard that early we will probably be forced to take Marshall at 8. I have a hunch New Orleans may take Marshall with their 2nd pick, which will be before our 2nd pick.

Agree. And I wouldn't hate that. Hope we have an option (pick).

If Harrison Barnes dropped to us at 8, would the Jazz take him or lillard? If lillard was taken and it was between Marshall and Barnes?

Some of us enjoy speculating about the future. What's wrong with masturbation?

I'd take Barnes. I think most would disagree, though. I feel we need a 3pt shooting SF more than we need a PG, by a small margin.

Well if Utah ends up with both I would be ok with taking a 3 pt shooting SF with the GSW pick because we could address the PG with that latter pick 9hopefully).

Leaning Lillard again. If Millsap's going to play the 3, shooting/floor-spreading becomes even more important. I'd also say that Lillard has as good a chance at being a good playmaker/passer as Marshall has at becoming a good shooter. That's not considering that Lillard is almost certain to be the better defender.

However, I think Marshall's passing impact is more certain than Lillard's shooting/scoring.

I don't know.

Watching Barnes near the end of the season, he reminded me of a more limited Cj, someone who takes bad shots, misses shots he should make. The only difference is Cj can drive and dribble the basketball, and more gifted athletically. I want no part of this guy. Another thing to consider Barnes looked horrible before Marshall started playing. I see Barnes as a huge bust.

This. Barnes' BBIQ worries me a ton.

Improving your shot is much easier than improving your court vision, and passing instincts/ability, IMO.

And yes, Marshall's passing has a much better chance of impacting a game than Lillard's scoring, IMO. We don't know for sure if Lillard will be able to do anything near what he did at Weber, but Marshall's role would be exactly the same for us as it was for UNC. I see little reason to doubt whether his playmaking will translate.
