Dante Exum - Full SL Highlights

Dante's career arc may be like another 18-year-old who went to the NBA straight from high school: Kobe. In his first season (1996-97) he played in 71 games, averaging 7.6 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 15.5 minutes. He shot 35.5% from 3 and 41.7% overall. In his second season, he played in 79 games, averaging 15.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 26 minutes. He shot 34.1% from 3 and 42.8% overall. In season three, the averaged 19.9 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists in 38 minutes. He shot 26.7% from 3 and 46.5% overall. Obviously, Kobe struggled with his shot in his first three years, and I expect the same from Dante. I hope Utah fans are as patient with Dante as Laker fans were with Kobe. There'll be a big payoff down the road.

kobe was much more athletic, taller, longer, and he had that drive to be the best. it's a long shot.

As a 19 year old, Kevin Durant scored 20.3 a game on 43% from the floor, 87% from the line, with 4.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.0 steal, and 0.9 blocks per game.

and there are bunch of great 20 year olds who played great right away - magic, shaq for example

but dante just look like he is 3 years away. it takes time.

Yah i remembered he had to play behind Van Exel and Eddy Jones. The coach was that white haired guy... Del Harris...

yup.

but i really hate kobe comparison. dante is nothing like kobe. different build, different mentality. i just hope dante becomes lil penny like

EXUM looks to pass first and foremost. He enjoys getting his team humming and involved. He's like a Jason Kidd in a Kobe's body IMO.

I see superstar.

He is just too much mix of raw talent and swagger.

Look out world.

Conditioning, strength and shooting. I think by playing in Utah, working his *** off and learning from NBA coaches, that he gets much better at all three of these current weaknesses.

His athleticism, BBIQ and pass-first mentality were all on display. He struggled hard with the conditioning, but still did enough to electrify when the ball was in his hands.

His defense was a lot better than I was expecting. Instincts were better than I had anticipated. Those long arms can be really disruptive. I was a skeptic before the draft, but I'm a full-fledged believer now.

Dante Exum will be a star if the Jazz are patient with his development. They've done or said nothing to convince me that they won't be. They're building around this kid. Hoping that an Exum, Burks and Hayward backcourt will be pretty damn good, and that Favors benefits a lot from his P&R passing. If Kanter or Gobert prove they belong with that group, I think that the Jazz will be sitting pretty.

I was sitting a few rows up on the sideline right where Exum made his hesitation drive at 4:01 in the video against the Spurs. It was so insanely fast, I blinked and he was at the basket. If he could have jumped a couple inches higher on his finish, that play probably would have been the highlight of the Summer League.

Also, kind of a weird pairing to get excited over but I could see Exum and Novak playing well together in our 2nd unit with the way Exum is patient and finds shooters at their spots.

Yep, I'm excited about Exum. He's electric and looks like he's playing at a higher level of ease than everyone else. I also see the Tony Parker influence in his game.

The other guy that seemed to have real swagger in summer league was Zach Lavine. He was making plays while looking like he wasn't trying that hard.

Good thought

Yes, are best team is Exum, a couple of great perimeter shooters, and a couple good men in the post. Exum will disrupt the d and make it collapse.. we just need to give him options of hitting the open man for a 3 or a dump down/lob to the post.

I want to see Exum perfect a tear drop.. that makes him unguardable.

Kanter could fulfill both of those needs.

I like Exum/Kanter as our 1-2 punch of the future.

I saw a lot of things that I really liked. One moment in particular caught my eye. At the 1:21 mark, he's executing a pick and roll up high. The defender tries to play under, but gives too much room. It looks like they're worried about him passing again to the roll guy. Understandable. So with his guy chasing and another guy moving up to get in his face, he steps up between the two and nails a simple little jump shot. It looked nice and natural. John Stockton used to kill opponents with that play exactly. If Dante can consistently make that shot. . . look out.
