Dante Exum re-signed

I still think the guy waived is Jonas.

Udoh has been in SLC nearly the entire summer and that stuff really matters to Utah.

Prolly right... it was probably a decision of Thabo or Jonas. If either Crowder or Thabo get hurt though we may struggle to have shooting 4s.

You were one of the biggest Royce's fans along with me... what do you think about him getting time there?

They wouldnt be dipping into the tax if they waived Jerebko and Udoh and replaced those salaries with someone at the MLE and Niang, for example, would they?

I thought Exum would get around $10m, with the floor a little above MLE, so not a huge "overpay."

Could front load Exum's deal, waive Jonas, replace him with a minimum guy and be about 3.5M away from the tax... maybe more depending on what does and doesn't count with Favs deal.

I just dont see it. He will be playing next to slower footed forwards (Ingles/Crowder/Thabo) most of the time, so they will get the slower matchup and Royce will be put on the quicker players. For the most part, I dont think it really matters (unless it's starting and you are playing more skilled/bigger/athletic 4's). Most backup 4's now arent **** or are smaller guys playing the 4.

They would likely be at or dangerously close to it.

I don't want to be close to the tax because if a trade comes up that requires you to add $3-4M you may pass or not execute the deal. The luxury tax payment this year could be a lot too... so dipping slightly into the tax is silly.

Since I did this for Derrick, it's only fair.

I think Bjelica gets more than what we will offer... I basically said the same thing. Depending on the structure of Exum's deal we can waive Jonas and Udoh sign a minimum guy and be about 6-8M from the tax.

That number includes Favs at his full 18M... so maybe only 16M counts for tax purposes? Not sure there.

Unless we get Bjelica on a multi year deal around 3/16-17 I think we waive Udoh and sign a minimum guy.

I think he may want to come here though. He knows he can play his best bball under Quin and the Jazz system.

Yeah I guess I mean it in a sense of he could play that role if needed. Just want to be able to put more wings on the floor and still rebound and handle the paint. Want injury redundancy.

I really wish Bradley was ready (and maybe he is) would like to limit the amount of 5 only centers on the roster.

I like the deal. Rather than let him go out and negotiate a deal then match it, The Jazz get to do 2 things. 1. They get terms that are better for them 2. they prove they want him and don't make him go through the deal of signing with another team, just to come back to the Jazz. They buy a little more loyalty when this deal ends.

I mean if he didn't have better options and he'd take Jonas' salary number and maybe we give him a player option... It'd be a bargain... and I think we need to bargain shop with our exceptions.

Love it. Love the deal, and I love that it looks like Raul, Derrick and Dante had few doubts they wanted to come back.

Do we know if any of them even had a serious conversation with another team?

If they did NFW it was for anywhere 33 mil.

They're buying goodwill on the off chance he breaks out and become a top shelf combo guard.

My guess is Dante is one of those guys who just never puts it all together for 82 games - either an injury, inconsistency, lack of mental/physical toughness. Hope I'm wrong and I'm going to root like hell for him; but I see his ceiling as decent back-up.

That's what you can do if you waive Udoh and Jerebko w/ Exum front loaded. Get 8 million below the tax with 1 roster spot open. (actually 9.5 million for 2 spots, but I signed Niang).

Right... i just don't know if Favs salary counts as 16 or 18 because of the incentives. So you'd want some room there... and you'd also want some wiggle room for trades.

I think we waive Jonas either way, but doubt we use full MLE even if we waive both guys... maybe a good chunk. Dante also may not be front loaded which makes a difference.

Yes, and he wasn't good for large parts of it.

I'm not saying he won't manage to play 82 games (although he might not) I just don't think he'll be able to bring it to the point where he'll be a consistent starter for a whole season.

One of the top 4 or 5 teams the second half of last season without Ex. Now we get him back and we are one of the top 3 or 4 for the season if he and Rudy stay healthy. (That's my hope, but I really feel it's possible).
