Dante Exum re-signed

Only way this contract is bad is if Exum continues to suffer major injuries. If he plays the contract will rate anywhere to, "fair value for a decent player" to "huge part of our team." There is a chance Exum doesn't reach his potential and we are stuck with a very strong perimeter defender, but there is also a real chance Exum takes a step and becomes one of the most versatile guards in the wing who is a perfect compliment to Mitchell. This isn't Burks. Jazz are taking a fair bet on a player who, if he stays healthy and takes that step he is capable of, would be essential to taking this team to the next level. You have to take these bets at the end of the day. If it works out we have him for three years under a good faith contract--probably a lesson they learned from bungling Hayward's first contract, the only major mistake of the Lindsey era.

I see the odds of Simmons getting a "good" 3 pt shot in the next 3 years being about as likely as a foot of snow in Hawaii in that same time span.

well actually at the top of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa on the big island it does snow in January i think ...

Why did you resign with the jazz, Dante ?
You will the 4th choice guard next season behind mitchell, neto, rubio, burks.

After sleeping on it, I'm going to officially 180 myself on this deal for the following reasons:

1. Exum's potential. Utah has probably the best development program in the league and I will grant Exum's injuries, particularly his shoulder, were fluke things. The knee obviously didn't affect his speed, which will be his greatest asset, and unlike previous Jazz incarnations, we can teach players how to shoot. If he smooths out his shot, he becomes a good weapon. This is still some time off though, but it can be done. And that defense. He has the tools to be elite overall and has a good BBIQ as he's learned a lot from being a raw rookie many years ago. The club and him just have to figure out how to tap the keg and keep him from getting injured as much as possible.

2. Cap projections. The cap is projected to be 108m next year and 116m the year after. In terms of percentage of the cap, it degrades. I'm okay with that.

I still would have liked a team option in the deal, but it is what it is and Lindsey is still drooling over Exum. And I trust Lindsey. We'll see where it goes.

I somewhat agree, however no one acknowledges that if he doesn’t play or make the steps you say (another bad injury or no growth), we HAVE replicated burks’ Untradeable contract. 11 million doesn’t seem like much but we weren’t able to do anything with burks these past years. And the league wasn’t jumping all over signing exum now in this discount summer. Why would anyone want him at 11 per if he doesn’t develop or gets hurt a third time...

Just really hope exum works out, and that we didn’t just pay a guy double his market value to play poorly for 30 games a season, because we’ve seen “flashes”.

Small market teams need to maximize value.

I agree with all this, but Exum has made some steps during his tenure with the Jazz and his injuries were unrelated to each other. The cap will also rise by 13m to 16m over the next few years. In terms of impact, it will degrade due to natural increases and won't have the same impact that Burks' deal did.

snyder will most likely give Dante a very short leash next year, like how he has treated Dante in the last few years.
Big mistake, Dante. Should have signed some where else and be a nba starter.

I Expect only 15~20 minutes per game for Dante with plenty of Dnp~cd next season.

hey dude! How are school holidays? Have any of the girls in your home economics class got bosoms yet? Puberty can be a confusing but fun time. Remember to make the most it, because son when you're my age if you want to date teenage girls first you have to groom them online, then drug them, after that disposing of the body can be a real chore.

Maybe you can’t understand it because you kept telling us he should leave or he’s gone or he should take the QO.

Maybe it’s time to attribute your shock and amazement to its appropriate source — you.
