Does Gasol teach...or pout? I honestly don't know. Besides, Favors, didn't he go 3-0 or 4-1 as a starter with Al out last year?

I am not sure about that. What I am sure about is that Gasol is a great passer for a big man. He is not a defensive liability. He is constantly moving even without the ball. He has a dangerous mid range shot that must be respected. All of these things are a huge improvement over what we have. Gasol will help this team and Favors (as well as everyone else on the Jazz) development.

Agreed, making the move to get Nash means the Lakers are focused on winning now still and making a salary dump move like Gasol for Al just doesn't make sense.

My guess is this next year is an all or nothing year for them. I think they'll give this team one year to win it at all and if they come up short I think they'll move Pau next offseason to avoid the huge luxury tax hit they'd take. However, I think if they trade for Dwight (sending Bynum to ORL), then that could shake things up for them and they'd have a more long-term approach and might be more willing part with Pau now.

Agreed. What they probably want to do is get rid of MWP. Nash makes them a contender again. Pau is a huge part of that.
Well at least he's played in some playoff games. Eddy Curry has never appeared in a playoff game and yet will get a championship ring.

for weeks, people on these boards have been willing to trade al jefferson for a bag of used toilet tissue and a protected 4th round pick from 1976.
now a scenario emerges (even if only in david locke's head) for them to trade al for one of the smartest big men on the planet, a two-time champion, an elite passer from the post and elbow, AND a good citizen, and we're turning up our noses.

it's simple: he destroys the summer of '13, when we could pick up a key (if not THEE key) piece for the endured success of the franchise. If he were 5 years younger it would be an absolute no-brainer. But... it's not.

I want one young max guy next year, and I think a lot of KOC's moves suggest that he does too. If you add Pau and extend Mo and Sap, then..................

Hey everyone who considers the 2013 cap space to be something sacred that we durst not touch beforehand, look at Dallas. We have no control over what other teams will do with their RFAs, we have no control over what UFAs will do, so I see nothing wrong with digging deep into that money now and assuring I get something good before I'm all out of options and have to re-sign Al (hyperbole).
I think one thing we have learned from KOC is that he doesn't like to play the wait and see game. He showed that with DWill and he showed that this offseason - while every other team was waiting for the big dominos to fall, KOC was minding no business and getting work done.
You can play the wait and see game with the '13 cap space, but you may not like what's left to pick from when all is said and done (see Mavericks, Dallas).

not sure who you think we're getting, but my point is that pau is better than just about anyone in next year's free agent class, except for the players we have no shot at (cp3, dwight, harden, etc...).
i don't believe the pau rumor/possibility for a second, but if it were on the table and the jazz passed it up so they could maybe possibly have an outside chance of signing emeka okafor or manu ginobili... that just makes no sense. financial flexibility is only an asset inasmuch as it gives you a chance to get top talent. telling top talent to take a hike so you can maintain financial flexibility is putting the cart before the horse.
