David Locke - Utah Jazz are NOT tanking

Sixers tanked for 4 years. Spurs, Rockets and Pistons are not competitive by design this year.
Sixers definitely didn't field a non competitive team. I saw them win games every year and be close in games they lost. They could have been much worse. Same with the other teams you listed.
I played a total of zero games for those teams. They could have easily signed me for the league minimum and lost even more games.

Who are they competing with? We are in the play-in, competing at the same level with half of the west including the defending champions.

Not comparable.
And yet we made a trade that would hurt our ability to compete... that's weird. We also lost to one of those non-competitive teams at home. Huh...

Nope... Spurs just prioritized youth. They are in a rebuild. Same with Rockets and Pistons. Rockets and Spurs waited until the deadline to offload vets... Pistons actually acquired Bogey (a vet).
They are in a rebuild, but also tanking. You dont finish below 20 wins with a competitive team. They never had a chance... Pops said it himself pretty directly early season after Spurs had won a few games.

seems like you're saying the jazz are more competitive than those teams? maybe even a lot more competitive? is that fair?
Than what teams? Those around us? We own tie breakers against many of them so yeah. Warriors might have pedigree to go further as well as Pels with a healthy Zion.. but other teams around us are pretty much equally competitive to us. Thats why we are here.

None of us is winning a chip this year though.

We did, but it fid not make us non-competitive..which is the definition. We are 4-3 since the trade.

Wait so we lost to a non-competitive tanking team that is so bad they lost 16 straight games? I have a hard time believing that. I mean they played Doug McDermott last night and he's old... tanking teams would have offloaded that guy.

I guess we were just short handed last night... man how did we go from the best bench in the league to being so short handed we are playing two way guys and guys on 10 days? Weird.

wrong sir... competitive is having a strong desire to be more successful than others. Both teams seemed to really want to be more successful than the other... so both were competitive... yet one is tanking?

Last night was the first time I thought to myself we were intentionally tanking.

What other reason would Hardy leave that horrid lineup in until we lost a double digit lead and we’re down 6 in the 4th?
Yeah that was puzzling.. but we were also depleted after Ochai got injured. Hardy probably wanted to try something out and thought our starters can rally us back (which they did before we blundered it away).

Wait, has it been peer-reviewed or published at the Journal of Sports Definitions? I would like to read the essay :D
No my definition is in line with the general definition found in the internet.

HH definition with multiple shades of tanking is unsupported by credible sources.

Every team in the NBA is competitive... unless someone arbitrarily declares they are tanking based on the results of their season. Every GM knows exactly what they will get when they make trades and is able to predict results with precise accuracy.

And why were we depleted?

Where was Beasely?
We have players that are better than the ones we traded lol... those guys we traded don't even matter.

True. Which we have and which we are to a certain extent.

Unless the equipment guys are intentionally forgetting the sneakers and forcing us to play in socks we are not tanking... it says it on reddit.

Beasley was absolutely terrible for us before the trade.

He played zero defense and couldn't hit the broad side of the barn.

He literally shot us out of several games.

Vando was a tweener with no ball skills who didn't fit with our young starting center. Conley is almost retired. NAW may or may not be an NBA rotation player. You never know what you're gonna get.

I had no problem with sending these guys out. I just wanted a useful player or two coming the other way.
