Davies off the BYU Bball team- Honor Code Violation

..... and as I recall, there's some sort of "moral approval" that non-Mormons have to get, I guess something like the "ecclesiastic endorsement" mentioned above

(if I can quickly find the link, I'll add it in)

I really have to hand it to Dave Rose, Bronco Mendenhall, and their staffs for being able to recruit the kids that they do. I seriously have no idea how they ever get any non-mormon kids to commit to their programs.

OK - I'll ask the question.

Is his girlfriend white?

I don't know jack about BYU but I do remember seeing a piece (I think ESPN or HBO) about a black football player from BYU who was dismissed from the team because, he claims, for having sex with his white g/f. He said many of the non-Mormon players on the team had sex but the school singled him out because his g/f was white.

Here's my take. I don't think Davies went and talked to his bishop about what happened. Of course this is only what I think. I've seen it happen where a girlfriend goes and does the confession thing and authorties know who they are dating and it goes from there. Either that or his roommate walked in on him while he was posting her up.

Look at some of you. Pathetic.

This is like walking up to a bees next, kicking the **** out of it, and then getting mad at the bees for stinging you. This is not BYU's fault. Thank the Gods that at least one school still has the balls to have AND enforce an honor code.

Pretty sweet that this incident has not only ruined BYU's chance at the National Title. But the kids life has been ruined in the process.

Yay!

This is pretty funny:

Drama Queen. He'll go Dwight Howard beast the weight room, make some personal changes, and put up 20 and 10 next year and BYU will be in the top 10 again sans Jimmer. I'm glad he isn't as mentally weak as you are.

BTW, that team looked absolutely pathetic yesterday. I would like to think it had something to do with the emotions of the past few days, but those backups are really not good players. They need to put Hartsock at the 5, and either of Abouo and Rogers at the 4 and just suck it up that they are going to have problems rebounding and in the post. Those other guys can't play a lick. I would never let them in the game if I was Rose. We need Jimmer to have a monster game to even get out of round 1 now.

I don't think BYU did anything wrong. I just happen to think it's a shame that the kid is never going to live down his mistake. In the end, it's his fault for choosing a school with an honor code that he didn't live up to, but I still feel somewhat bad for the kid. When a regular Joe @ BYU gets caught banging his girlfriend, he get's the benefit of redeeming himself without it being national news. Obviously, Davies doesn't get that benefit.

And as far as having the "balls" to enforce your almighty honor code, I'd go easy with patting your favorite school on the back. Not that long ago, the honor code and how it was enforced was quite a joke.

I completely disagree that BYU allowed this to get out to the media. If he indeed repented for what he did and felt bad, why did the school find it meaningful to involve the media. Not only does he now feel bad for what he has done but is also embarassed and now the whole nation knows what he did. Last time I checked, what you tell a church authority is between you and them and God. Not you, them, God and ESPN.

It's nothing more than a conspiracy theory than anything else, but I have heard it brought up a few times that a there are folks up at BYU who are always very eager for an opportunity to show that sports DO NOT come before the religious aspects of the school. Some believe that's why you saw Davie's punishment come very quickly and very publicly.

I have no idea if this is true, but I've heard there's actually a good sized faction of people within BYU that would have no problem what so ever if the athletic programs were abolished all together.

Plenty of laughs to be had reading this thread. The usual suspects spouting the usual stuff. Never gets old.

Best of luck, Davies.

The word on the BYU message board that I just browsed is that a Provo Daily Herald reporter was going to scoop the Davies situation, and so Brandon/BYU beat him to the punch. I don't know the validity of that, but it makes more sense to me than BYU doing it for those reasons. Surely BYU having a deep run in the tourney is better for the school than any positive PR they can spin out of this.

But yes, I'm not sure BYU was hoping for something like this, but I don't doubt that they believe in the Rahm Emanuel line of thinking where you try to direct a "crisis" to your advantage. It sounds like they are doing a good job of doing exactly that as well. The majority of people are saying, "good for you guys." It's the BYU fans that want to see a basketball team they've fallen in love with finish the year strongly that BYU is combating.

Solid post Duck.

Im one of those folks outside of the local circle, thankfully, and I think what BYU did and how they've handled things has been fine. Davies knew how much trouble the fairer sex can bring..he learned the hardway. I blame the girl for opening her legs and giving him the temptation.

Also, how did people find out he hit the catchers mitt?

On behalf of LogGrad,

Wait, wait, wait......wait, wait, wait...............wait.

What is this Honor Code you guys speak of, and why does this mean Davies is off the team?
Why was I not informed?
