This article may miss most people as it describes a thing most people cannot relate to. I, in southern California, cannot buy fire insurance for my house from any provider other than the state of California itself. It is not a cost issue. I cannot purchase home owner's fire insurance at any price. It has nothing to do with risk or climate change. Teen drivers crash lots of cars, and I can still get insurance to cover a teen driver. Risky borrowers with awful credit can still get car loans. There are no underwriters anywhere in the country who will insure my very ordinary house against fire.

I, like many of the people who just lost their houses in the LA fires, have our insurance through the California FAIR Plan.

It didn't used to be this way. My previous homes in southern California were insured through various underwriters. The Democrat super-majorities in the California legislature and the Democrat governor killed the insurance industry in California. Do you want to know who is going to pay for all those homes lost to fire? You are. These homes were likely all insured by the state of California who cannot pay, and the Federal government will step in to provide assistance to the California government. California destroyed the insurance market so now you get to pay for it.

It is telling that you have to attack the people instead of making any effort to address what they were saying. This was a failure of government. The Young Turks hit the failures point by point.

In the wake of the LA fires, some democrats have been making efforts to address some of the issues. One of the big issues has been the lack of forest management. An effort to now rush forest management has been put in motion, and as fast as it was put in motion it has been sued to a stand still by environmentalists.
