Deron Williams agress with Besiktas (turkish team )Derom Williams to play in Turkey during lockout

You don't think Istanbul - one of the oldest metropolises on earth, one of the most rich in history, with one of the highest populations - would have more to interest ANYONE, as oppose to Utah? It's not a backwoods town, exactly.

I guess all I can say is of the cities I haven't been to yet, Istanbul tops the list by a mile for me.

Nah dude, everywhere that isn't America is a 3rd world country and people still use Outhouses to poop.

i take it as a joke sınce u havent been to istanbul yet. I live in fresno,ca and it is like a third world country/city compared to istanbul
But of course there are 3rd world type cities in Turkey too as not every city in US is new york.

But other than the city, i dont know what attracts Deron to Besiktas because they arent participating in Euroleague, only Efes and Fenerbahce Ulker does(where Kanter, Omer and Semih came from) in Turkey.

What i think is Deron just wants to keep himself fresh and dont wanna lack match practise once the lockout is over.

Turkish league is one of the most competing in Europe but the league games in Europe are played once a week thats why its not a big deal of competition compared to NBA.

Do the euro refs tolerate whining? It seemed different to me than the NBA in the few games and clips I have been able to watch of Euro basktetball. It was refreshing.

By the way I will be disappointed if Deron doesn't average 58% fg, 21 points, 15 assists and 3 steals a game. :)

They tolerate more i think, i dont see technical fouls very often and what i like in europe is there is much more tolerance for contact, in nba they blow the whistle as soon as Kobe like players get touched.

Also the games are 40 min each. So 21 pts 15 assists is a big number

And Deron is three times as good as anyone they've ever seen. I'd guess DWill would be taking it easy since he has his career to think about. But even coasting he would obliterate that league. I'll definitely be trying to watch those games if they ever happen.

Yes, I used sarcasm.

i agree that he will dominate the league but getting 21 pts 15 assts is like 26 pts 18 assts in nba so its pretty big but Deron is good, it would be an interesting turkish league with him. But i doubt they will win the league, Fenerbahce is dominating right now.

If Deron cared, he could make the worst team in that league champion. I'd even wager he could do it 4 on 5.

I don't get how this gives the players leverage. Can't the owners now say, "hey, you are willing to play for 5 million in Europe. Come back to America. You won't get your 17 million, but we will double what you are willing to work for, and our max deals will be 10 million. Don't like it? Go back to Europe and play for 5 million."

Well if a ton of star players are playing in Europe instead of the NBA, the NBA is going to lose a lot of money.

There are only 5-7 teams in Europe capable of paying $5-7mln. It will take 10-20 NBA players to saturate the market so don't expect much movement

I think if a Euro team could land a Superstar in their prime like Dwill, the signing would pay for itself.

There is a sponsorship agreement for Deron signing if it ever happens and Besiktas will not pay the salary just by themselves. Also if a player signs for 5 million bucks, he earns 5 million - 15% tax = $4,250,000. Tax ratio is better than NBA for sure.

If the assertion that 22 of the teams are losing money then concern of losing money due to a few players going to europe is moot I think. These 22 teams are currently fine with lockout compared to existing situatation.

Also, the idea of some players going to Europe makes a rift in the players situation, complicating matters worse. Big market teams, little market teams, players sitting ($0), players in Europe/China ($$$).

What is the estimated overall 'rebuilding' cost if there is a lockout somewhat into the season? A whole season? If players share in this total $, what is their portion lost?
What is the total career earnings lost if there is a lockout for a year? (average career lenght and pay calculation) And does this opportunity cost outweight the opportunity gain for this generation of players?
What % of the non-superstars care about $3M vs $2.5M /per year? (is that accurate reduction?) Who on the Jazz do you think finds solidarity more important than just taking a cut and getting on with it?

I guess from my limited view, which includes the assumption that 22 teams are losing money is fact, then it is a matter that the players should do some compromising. The lifespan of owning is a longer term proposition than the lifespan of playing. The owners are hunked down for the long haul. The players are posturing.

DWill will have to pay to the USA taxman regardless

Jeez, guys.
DWill will be liable to paying USA taxes regardless. If his tax rate in the US is 40% and in Turkey 10% he will pay 10% in Turkey and 30% in the US because of the Treaty. Otherwise he would have to pay 40 and 10.

thats what im saying,US players(and green card holders) pay 10% tax of what they earn abroad.and foreign players pay 10% tax in Turkey. So he is gonna pay 10% total,no matter if he pays it to Turkey or US.Like when Memo signed a commercial deal in Turkey,he had to pay 10% tax to USA.this is what i know, but i might ne wrong as well
