I found this pretty interesting. The guy is a beast given time. Next year I hope he sees nothing less than 30 minutes a game.

Those stats as a starting center are very impressive. I'm not sure if that means he plays better against centers, or if he simply plays better along side Millsap rather than Al.

Locke interviewed Phil Johnson today and it was very interesting. One thing he said was that the 4 and 5 position are almost exactly the same as the 2 and 3 positions on the Jazz. So Favors playing better at center is really nothing more than one of two things.
1) It could just be a statistical anomaly
2) It could mean that Favors performs MUCH better when he is starting with Milsap than he is starting with Al.

I think it's 2. I didn't realize how much of a difference Al/Favors and Al/Milsap made.

I may be in the minority on this, but I want to see the full potential of the Favors/Al/Sap starting line up next season.

You forgot 3) Favors plays better while playing against bigger and slower opponents that generally play C instead of PF. His quickness and athleticism is minimalized when playing against smaller faster players at PF. When playing C his athleticism and speed are a bigger advantage than his size is against PF's.

Agreed while the position might be the same on the Jazz as far as responsibilities go they are not the same on other teams and the opposing center guards our center they rarely cross.

Favors plays well offensively against slow centers and undersized power forwards usually.

Beat me to it.

nice addition. But, I think Scola would tell you about how good Favors is at guarding the 4, too.

Favors has a lot of room to grow. We'll likely stick him on the best player, whether he's a 4 or a 5.

Kanter will be able to guard either position as well.

True dat.

Am I the only one who isn't on the Favors bandwagon? I just don't see why people are all over his nuts. He isn't really that good, doesn't look to have much potential, and plays two or three mediocre games for every awesome game he has. I'm not trying to be a dick here or hating on him -- I actually like him -- but I just don't get it. He's a great backup, nothing more.

Scola is not a quick athletic "4" though. He's a plodder that uses position and smarts to get his points and contribute to the game. Favors should dominate that matchup.

He is already a better over all player than both Millsap and Jefferson. He impacts the game on both ends of the floor. He should be getting more minutes. When he gets minutes he contributes. Putting up double/doubles routinely. I don't know how you can't see it.

Kanter on the other hand I am not high on. His lack of athleticism or improvement this season are disturbing to me.

I think you are wrong. I think he is already a better starting quality big than a lot of guys starting in the NBA right now and he's 20 or 21 years old.

At times I've wondered if he would be good. His knack for getting the whistle to seemingly always go against him is alarming. But he has to be good. He has all the tools. He just has to put it together upstairs now. I believe he will.

If you're going by stats only, yeah....but he does things that big men can only dream of. He's pretty much got the lateral quickness of a gaurd and the body of a center.

I can understand the concern over his less than stellar numbers RIGHT NOW, but to say he has little potential is just plain ignorant. His physical tools are truly elite--there's a reason he was drafted ahead of Cousins, and it wasn't because people thought he would be better than him right off the bat, it was because he had a limitless ceiling.

Come on...you have to be trolling.

Btw. I don't think his center numbers are inflated due to platings oafs. He is getting 35 minutes a game when he has played center. The key is minutes. Give him minutes and run plays to him and he is goimg to blow up. I love his baby hook coming across the middle. It's been a nice go to move that he has recently developed.
