What's new

Derrick Favors' family has moved to Atlanta.

His family lives in Atlanta. His GF probably just needed help raising the kids around family. Hard to be a mom when the father of your children goes on long road trips and you have two twins who are 3 and a new baby.

Also, it's probably a pretty strong sign he isnt coming back to Utah if there isnt a larger effort to stabilize his family in Utah. But everyone already knew that. None of this means he is going to Atlanta.

Could be an indicator, but agree this is all about family and having help. I would have thought that would be a trade destination for him but they wouldn’t want him this year because he’d hurt the tank. Really logical destination for him. He seemed to perk up after our game there. If all offers were equal in money I think he ends up there.

He'll be following in the footsteps of Paul Millsap who also left us for the Hawks.

Korver-not directly, Carroll, any others? Jazzmen have done well in Atlanta.

We're gonna get Mirotic no matter what this offseason... Probably for something like Burks+2nds or something like that.

I may just be naive... I certainly was with our other UFA. I really hope Favors stays. Maybe he wants to have a different or larger role on a team. Maybe he doesn't like it here. I hope he stays. I love his contribution and he has been the ultimate professional through all the ups and downs here in SLC.

But, this news seems to be a pretty strong indication that he doesn't expect to put down family roots in Utah. :(

Don't want to be too cynical but l think this streak of good health Favors is having is either a fluke or one of those "contract year things."

I'd be a bit hesitant to give him a raise and another multi year deal with his track history of non descript injuries.

Listening to the dunk'd on podcast and right at the end they're projecting around the MLE for Favors, which is 9 or so million and if Utah offers 2/23, it might be his best offer.

Not sure Favors fits into Atlanta's timeline, either. They have one of the Plumlees at 12.5 million a year for awhile. Hard to have that much salary in centers. Works for Utah as Gobert is worth his contract.

Hawks MIGHT be more of a fit if Dedmon opts out. Have to look for that.

I glanced over the cap situation of every team and the most sense I saw was Indiana. Would fit their timeline and if Indiana thinks a Turner-Sabonis-Favors rotation would work, they could pursue it. Would fit Favors' desire to play a more PF role and I think he'd mesh with Turner and Sabonis fairly well.

Some money destinations are Phoenix and Sacramento, but I'd be hesitant, say, if either of those two offered 3/40 and he had an offer of 3/36 with last year player option from Utah.

Nets might work, but they've got dead money in Mozgov, and Favors isn't a homerun enough to offset fears of two bad contracts at same position.

I think any other team has other priorities, like Portland with Nurkic, or doesn't fit a timeline with Favors. I mean Favors makes you better, but if you're not competing for playoffs the next two years, why are you signing him?

I don't think he fits their timeline either. ATL is gonna tank big time too, and I wouldn't be surprised if they end up with Ayton. Plus they drafted John Collins who they are super high on.

I can see Favors signing a 2yr deal if hes convinced he plays deep into the playoffs here, even if that is behind Rudy. Then hitting FA again in 2019/20 when the bad money starts coming off teams books.

Maybe the FO pays slightly overs to keep him around, showing good faith as Favors was seen to have taken a 'team contract' previously. His value as Rudy insurance alone will be hard to replace.

Can we still sign Favors to an extension? It would be nice for him and us to lock him in for 2 years even if we overpay.
