"If the Celtics want to utilize potential cap space this summer, they won't want holds muddying up their books and that, in part, might encourage them to utilize the $12.9 million exception from the Rondo deal to fetch talent soon. I love the Favors suggestion if for this reason only: Boston's exception is just enough to absorb his $12.95 million contract (utilizing the $100,000 buffer on trades) and wouldn't that be just like the Celtics to set themselves up for a move like that? ... The greater point here is that Boston still has the potential to maneuver this season and maybe offer a glimpse of where they are headed. Take a deep breath, this might only be the start of the maneuvering with an eye toward the future."

article on espn insider (https://espn.go.com/boston/nba/story/_/id/12068254/boston-celtics-mailbaggers-vent-rajon-rondo-trade-team-future) about how favors is a great fit for Boston. they have a lot of assets to trade. I love favors but what would be a good offer?

A top 2 pick in 2015. Okafor or Towns or walk away.

Boston doesn't have anything else that the Jazz should want. Utah has at least two or three solid players to build around (Hayward, Favors, Gobert and Exum) and they have great depth once players have more experience and the future starting group is identified.

The Jazz need a star player to pair with Hayward and lead the team. They have good pieces - then need a difference maker. That should be their only focus over the next 2-3 seasons and hope that Gobert and Exum both develop into stars in their own right.

Favors has one of the most valuable contracts in the league. We would have to be getting an awesome draft pick to trade him.

They have a lot of assets and none of them makes sense for us. They have absolutely nothing that we can use in our current stage of rebuild. What are they going to give us for Favors? The only trade for Favors I want is for another borderline all-star or a top 3 pick in a draft where we really like somebody. Right now they can't guarantee that.

I don't hate the idea of getting Marcus Smart.

Smart/Exum starting would be nasty defensively, but I like Favors better.

Smart can't shoot, yeah? I don't hate the idea. But I would rather get a shooter. And like you said, favors is better. Maybe smart, green and a draft pick.

Have be to #1 or #2 pick imo

Before the year I didn't want any part of any trade talk involving Favors. I see him being the next Jermaine O'Neal. If I recall it took him 7 years to develop into a star

Now with Gobert emerging and Kanter looking like he's maturing, I'm open to the possibility of trading him

But with all that said it's going to have to be a kings ransom of a trade.

First I don't think Favors is done improving. He's been good this year. He's starting to develop a jump shot, and think his J will be further along next year. Think next year could be the year.

Second. He loves it here has a great attitude and doesn't seem to care about needing to be in a big market team.

Third. Is there a better contract in all the league other then guys still on rookie deals?

These things in my opinion says we can't just trade Favors just to trade him. Even if we are offered a nice draft pick. If I were gm I'd be open to trading him, but not likely as teams probably wouldn't give up what I'm asking for.

Would also add that while Hayward is having his best year, and has emerged as the leader, favors in my opinion is the franchise.

Flame away losers...

I'm with Cy. I'd love to have smart teamed with X, but not at the expense of Favors. Think of the back court defense. That would cancel out Smarts lack of shooting, and while I don't think X will ever light up the NBA with his shooting ability, he's already improved his shot and should still get better.

Good points. On the best contract in the league:
Steph Curry - 10.6(2014-2015), 11.4(2015-2016), 12.1(2016-2017)

What does Boston have in draft picks anyway??

They have a ton of protected picks that will probably end up in the 20s, as well as 2 Brooklyn picks, which might be pretty valuable at some point:
https://basketball.realgm.com/nba/draft/future_drafts/detailed

Doesn't Boston have one of Brooklyn's draft picks from the Gerald Wallace trade or is that somebody else?

Yeah, I think Boston has Brookyln's 2016 draft pick unprotected. That is a pretty good pick.

Yah, they have 2 Brooklyn picks actually:

2016 first round draft pick from Brooklyn
Brooklyn's 2016 1st round pick to Boston [Boston-Brooklyn, 7/12/2013]

2017 first round draft pick from Brooklyn
Boston has the right to swap its 2017 1st round pick for Brooklyn's 2017 1st round pick; if Boston exercises this swap right, then Boston will convey its 2017 2nd round pick to Brooklyn protected for selections 31-45 (if this pick falls within its protected range and is therefore not conveyed, then Boston's obligation to Brooklyn will be extinguished) [Boston-Brooklyn, 7/12/2013]; this potential pick conveyance is the same as the one described in "2017 first round draft pick from Boston" on Brooklyn Credits

Also have the option to swap picks with the Nets in 2017.

Celtics made the Nets their bitch in that trade.

Yeah, let's trade the big we developed into a nice player over several years for a pick that may or may not yield us a big that we can develop into a nice player in a few years.

/facepalm
