Details of Former NBA star Kevin Johnson's Alleged Molestation of Teenaged Girl

so what is it you want to discuss - the pornographic description of events that you posted or other important elements of the case?

...a 1996 police report from Phoenix, Ariz. ...investigating “a celebrity involved in a reported child molestation.”

Kevin Johnson was the celebrity. These days he’s a politician, a national figure with aspirations to the governorship of California who’s proclaimed himself “Little Barack” and worked closely with the Obama administration. Married to Michelle Rhee, face of the charter-school movement, he’s positioned himself throughout his adult life as a sort of catcher in the rye for at-risk inner-city children through his work with a variety of charter schools and foundations, setting him up for his current run as the scandal-prone mayor of Sacramento, Calif. In 1996, though, he was one of the NBA’s top stars, at the very height of a career with the Phoenix Suns that saw him make three All-Star teams and earn tens of millions of dollars.

Mandi Koba, 15 years old at the beginning of the events described in the report, was the child….

...But the investigation produced no physical evidence that any crime had been committed, no criminal charges were ever filed against Johnson, and the accuser never spoke out.

A year after prosecutors decided not to indict, word about Koba’s molestation allegations got out around Phoenix. In May 1997, the Phoenix New Times reported that a lawyer representing the girl was trying to get money out of Johnson. Koba was not named—the pseudonym “Kim Adams” was used—but she took a beating in the story. Attorney Fred Hiestand, an advisor to Johnson at the time and to this day, told the paper that the Suns’ supernova point guard had indeed spent time with the accuser, but only because he’d “tried to help” her. Paul Rubin, the reporter who broke the bombshell story, wrote that Hiestand characterized the accuser as “mentally unstable and a liar.” Later, he would write that a Johnson lawyer had described Koba to him as a “sick slut” during his original reporting process.

...Mandi Koba asserts that Kevin Johnson paid precisely $230,600 for her silence.

This is the figure you get when you add up the numbers on the first page of what she presents as an unsigned copy of their agreement that she got from her lawyer when he retired. (It tracks the $230,000 figure reported in the Sacramento Bee in 2008.) While this document played a pivotal role in her life, Koba didn’t know the total amount off the top of her head, because legal fees, a payment to her mother, and hefty health care costs from mental injuries she attributes to what Johnson did to her ate into the sad windfall. Her original payment was $59,000, with another $91,918.24 put into a trust in her name....

What I wanted to discuss are the things that get swept under the rug because of athlete-god culture here in America, those details are sickening. **** Kevin Johnson. This story is heinous in many ways. It deserves way more attention.

FWIW - I was quite perturbed/alarmed and in shock when I first read this/posted it here(for obvious reasons).. My intentions were not to offend anyone(My apologies - I'm quite aware people aren't as de-sensitized as me, and respect that). Still though I don't regret it, I'd rather have been fracted for bringing this story some attention, than to see it go unmentioned.

Is pornographic the proper word to use when this story involves a minor?? I'd never think to use that word, to describe this story.. (just wondering)

Good post.
If you hadn't made this thread then I would have not known about this. I agree that it should be getting more attention.

Sadly there probably needed to be a black man shot by a cop in order for it to get any attention. Or a dead lion.

Idk. I think it works

I agree with much of this.

The problem with what you posted was that it seemed to be little more than a graphic account of a sexual encounter that read like it had been taken from the pages of a Harlequin romance or some other bodice-ripper genre and didn't really say anything about the victim.

I think the word felonious should be in there somewhere.

Thanks for bringing this story to my attention.

WTF is a bodice?

LOL!!

The part of clothing that covers the part of the body above the waist and below the neck.

Typically a bodice-tipper is a genre of novel written by men to fulfill their rape fantasies.

What's the diff between a tipper and a ripper? My grand always had romance novels at her house, but they were never written by men.

Go for it. Rape isn't rape if both parties consent, but go ahead spin your tale.
I suggest you look up statutory rape in the dictionary.

Malone was a sophomore at Lousiana Tech. He impregnated a 13-yr old! That, my friend, is rape and Malone should have served jail time.

Do athletes and others with money or power get free passes or a small slap on the wrist? Yes, they do. All the time. KJ is no different than many others.

Allegedly he was telling the victim stuff like 'It'd be better if you don't speak' - I wanted to point that line out in its natural context... Makes me sick to my stomach.

Harold Ballz showed up to this thread - not to cast stones at KJ, but at the users responding to the story - precisely the mindset I'm talking about.. (how Athlete's get a pass here) He even felt the need to bring up Karl Malone, and how he's cool with that story too! (I have a list of questions if your cool with that story too. but that's for another thread, another time)

As a 27 year old male, living in NY I can tell you on MANY occasions I've talked to chicks in bars, that were infact under-age and had fake I.D.'s (some of them have brought it up as conversation - cuz they don't have **** else to talk about). Maybe its different for others, I'm hyper-aware, I can always tell though.. ALWAYS, their too impressionable(and girls in their 20's in NYC are usually quite smart). These chicks can't fool me, and I'm just some random dude.

Such an asinine thing to say(Do you read the news?!). As someone who's been plugged into the news feeds and police blotters for over 10 years now, I can say that's candidly false, and can cite examples. It doesn't work.

What if those parties were your teenager and their high school gym teacher?! or your teenager and their resource room teacher, like this loser.. https://www.sheepsheadbites.com/201...igh-school-teacher-accused-sexual-misconduct/

As far as I'm concerned they should tar and feather these adults involved with teenagers. You could never convince me that the average teenager isn't still way too impressionable at that age, to really make a good informed decision for themselves. Especially if said teenager is drinking or on some sort of drug.

I can't wrap my mind around why any male has to resort to the alleged tactics of KJ. Go to some country where that's legal if that's how you prefer to get by.. Do that here in the USA and you deserve all the trouble that follows.

Let's not forget, we're talking about the current mayor of Sacramento.. The media has placed this man on a pedestal for quite some time.

'The man that saved the Kings!'

To say rape can't happen between 2 consensual parties, is such an asinine thing to say(Do you read the news?!). As someone who's been plugged into the news feeds and police blotters for over 10 years now, I can say that's candidly false, and can cite examples. It doesn't work.

it's not just the worship of the athlete-god, but also any celebrity or person of wealth or power (whether real or presumed) - - all of them too frequently get a "bye" as far as that goes

part of that is the "boys will be boys" mentality - colored somewhat by the "all girls who have sexual relations outside of marriage are sluts" mentality (which, in my honest opinion, also colors the opinions of some on the anti-abortion side of that discussion)
