What's new

Did Exum really say that???!!!???

Of the summer league

Rickey Green couldn't handle being a backup to Stockton, so he left the team. Bad career move.
Then so be it. If Burke can't beat out a 19 year old rookie and hold him off this season then he'll likely never be more than a career backup anyway. I don't see much more than a career backup anyway. If he whines his way out of town because he lost his spot then we did not need him anyway.

MVP numbers

If a 3 averages 4.5 assists a game while there are two other capable point guards who'll be controlling the rock quite often, those are some pretty legitimate numbers.

I'm thinking Burke will average around 7 assists per game, Dante will hit 4.5-5, and Hayward will hit around 4.5 as well. Burke is our starting point-guard, and he will be for probably the entire season just because of the poise he has.

Very curious whose gonna start at the 2-- will it be Burks at first, and will it eventually shift over to Dante? Will Burks be a 6th man for the entire season? Will Burks start for the entire season? I think Alec's defense against the league's SGs will dictate his role on this team-- it's obvious that he's offensively competent in terms of starters.

The starting-day starters will most-certainly be Burke-Burks-Hayward-Kanter-Favors, but who knows if Exum or Gobert sneak into the mix toward the end of the season.

Realizing that Dante probably wont get massive minutes unless Burke gets sent to the bench, or Burks stays as 6th man.

In terms of this season, I see the second as more likely. Maybe this will become a Curry/Ellis situation, where one needed to be traded in order to let the other excel.

If he emerges as a pretty good defender a la Denver-era Arron Afflalo then he'll be starting all season long. I hope Quin can work with Alec on this, and we can snag Burks for a 4 year 32 mill contract or something.

Ya i agree with all of this.

From what alec has shown on defense so far........ im concerned.

What brings me hope though is that he has good size, length, speed, and athleticism so hopefully the coach can teach him the defensive ins and outs that he has lacked so far and hopefully he can motivate himself to learn defense.

I never really felt that his defense was bad primarily due to lack of effort, but more of lack of intelligence/know how on the defensive end. (picking up ball handlers way beyond the three point line, getting killed on picks, ball watching and losing his man)

Agreed. Except Burke's trade value won't be as high as Ellis as he doesn't have as much upside.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Trey Burke. He was a good player for us last year. He has poise, he has leadership quality, I do believe he'll improve his shooting over time and can get quicker. I just believe that we have a much better potential All Star prospect in Dante who is essentially a PG in a SG's body. He's not gonna flat out score ala Kobe, but he'll pass the hell out of that ball and he'll become a better offensive player in his own right doing that (when defense starts to collapse) and he uses his quickness to attack those seams. That's why I think he's the kind of player that needs the ball in his hand (Because when you have a guy who isn't a natural shooter, the best thing to do is to put the ball in his hand and let him create).

He should be getting 20 points on this team (and at the price we've paid).

I don't care if he gets 18, 20, or 22. He just needs to be more efficient. shooting 41 % and 33% on 3'w won't cut it. If he scores 18 with 47-50 % fg and 38-40 % 3 pt, I think that's fine. It just means that other players are scoring.

Can I get a summary? TIA

Summary of this thread:

Hotttdramaaa posts an incomplete quote from Dante where it appears he is saying, "I'm more comfortable at the point, and that's the end of it" -- when, really, the context was important. Several pages spiral off on absolutely time-wasting bitching, the high-point of which was Hack's declaration that Dante was "pouty" during summer league, and that this whole situation is tenuous. Eventually the thread becomes a place for miscellany.

Summary of what Dante actually said:

I'm in the middle of an adjustment. This offense is more open, and doesn't really accommodate a PG like I'm used to being. I need to be more aggressive with the ball when and where I get it.
