I figure I'm the village idiot on filipinas. . . . well. . . . at least I've got some sense now, sense enough to deny being the expert on the subject.
When I was in the Philippines many years ago, it was like the Wild Wild West. LDS missionaries in the days of the old Southeast Asian Mission headquartered in Hong Kong, who didn't learn Chinese, were eventually just sent over to Manila where at least they could try to teach in English. They had actual possession of their passports, unlike later times when Mission Presidents just kept all the missionary passports in the mission home vault, to keep the boys from straying too far.
It was nothing to take off and go to Bali for a week. By the time I got there, free spirits were immediately put under close supervision and the strictest of discipines. Didn't work on me, so after a few months the Pres just washed his hands of me and turned me over to the Old School remnants, the actual "President of the Resistance", the ringleader of about fifty, one third of the mission force, who were out there to make waves. Well, to my credit I rebelled against them, too.
But not before I saw the seamy side of Asia.
I suppose you guys would get the picture if I told you that peroxides/bleaches are major skincare items in all the Sari Sari stores in every neighborhood. They were way ahead of what's-his-name Jackson. Estrogen or estrogenics in general are also virtual commonplaces in the markets. Gays were a huge segment even way back then. And every Barber Shop had a few of them waiting to give you pedicures or manicures, if not being the actual "barber". I was amazed at seeing how foxy chicks could look sailing outta their bamboo "Nipa Huts" to the barrio pump, to take their daily baths. . . . clad only in a towel, which they could manage well enough to make it worthless sitting there to gawk.
In the Philippines, the culture includes a lot of mothers who dote on their boys and actually raise them to be more effeminate, and encourage them to affect the gay appearances and styles. With the natural, in my crude uninformed and unscientific opinion, prominence of effeminate traits in the Asiatics, and the availability of cheap hormones, it's nothing for a guy to grow some boobs. With their artistic talents, the rest is just to be expected.
