What's new

I really think people don't realize how little we ran a system on either offense or defense. Our problem is not talent. It's guys not being on the same page. By no means am I suggesting a slick new offense and defense will make us champions. We still need pieces. But there's so much more we can do to utilize the guys we have.

Ok, here's a scenario:

Yahtzee... you are losing but only down by 20 pts.... the game is almost over as you have one slot left @ four of a kind.
Your first roll was three one's, one two, and one five. Two rolls left, do you go for the Yahtzee (50 pts), or do you pick up all of the dice and re-roll them because you need a higher number four of a kind to top 20 points?

(hint: you are the Jazz playing Yahtzee)

Tough question. I'd go with rolling it over, but I do wonder what the odds are.

I assume in this analogy the Jazz rolled it over too.

Ah, I saw your response. For whatever reason I was thinking that in this case it was the DWill era, where Deron and the rest represented the 3 1s. Although one could argue it was really a single 1 or 2 1s.

If we are talking about the current roster, yeah, I think the Jazz have some solid pieces to work with.

I have 2 big hopes with Ty. The first is a defensive system, not a philosophy. Considering Thibodeau has now designed the best 2 defenses in the NBA, that seems like a good place to start. If I'm KOC, I'm sending Ty to Thib School.

The second is an offense that stops being so rigid. Part of that is running sets through different players (P&R with wings for example.) But the bigger thing is playing more matchup on offense. As just one example, I've watched most of this Portland/Dallas series. Carlisle LOVES to pick on Portland's small wings. He didn't tonight because Terry went off, but the other night he called like 4 straight post ups for Marion who was being defended by Wes and Miller. He kept looking for that later in the game, too, and Marion is hardly a post up player.

As for us, I can't even count the number of times over the years I thought we should have posted AK. A lot of times he's matched up against a freaking 6'6 or 6'7 dude. Set him set up down low where he has a scoring advantage if he wants or, alternately, he can use his superior passing skills for cutters down the lane. This is EXACTLY what Atlanta does with Joe Johnson who gets matched up with small 2's.

The point is there's so, so much more we could be doing. Got a Korver who is one of the best 3 point shooters in the game? Get him 5 3's on plays. Got a CJ who is pretty effective on the drive? Call a few P&R's for him. Got a Hayward who is an excellent catch and shoot player already? Run a few plays to get him those opportunities besides curls which, frankly, is not a great shot for him at this point. Al's not so effective at 10 feet? Run a few backside screens to help him set up down low (that's what Memphis does with Zach.) Sap is utterly deadly from the top of the key? Run a few screen and rolls for him.

What you don't do is run ONE offensive system no matter how it's being defended or what the matchups are. Which, of course, is what we do.

My hope is that the KOC isn't content to just let "Ty do his thang". Or that Ty drafts someone with experience for this assistant coaching staff. Without a good right hand man, he may be overwhelmed

I want to disconnect myself, pull my brain stem out and unplug myself. I want nothin right now.... I WANNA PULL IT OUT!

Henry Rollins is a badass.... oh, this isn't in general? Another Vinylone post? I think we all know what the Jazz need and need not to do, Sojodave squashed that situation. And he didnt have to be all brainy about it.

Did he have to be whiny and complainy about it?

Chill out, seriously. You don't need to give yourself a stroke worrying about what other people do or post or say or think or type or imagine.

Deep cleansing breath in.......tension out.

Ok, I'm done with this therapy session, continue on with your "grown up" posting habits.

;):p:D:rolleyes::cool::o:):(:confused::mad:

Oh. I'll rage. Don't put that out on the chopping block. You need to chill out. Quit sending me disturbing, telepathic messages.

What does your indulgence prove?

The voices. Do you hear them?

DISCONNECT.
