DL and Quin Snyder Rift

Interesting Trib article. Looks like next year a lot of DLs guys might not be on the team. Wouldn't be shocked to see Udoka moved for a 2nd round pick.
Yeah sounds like Udoka was all DL. I guess we can all bury the thought of us turning the reigns over to him as the backup center.

And yes... all the guys that never got time, oni, brantley, etc. Quin just thinks they suck I guess.

Fredman is the other guy that was dumped... he was the guy that disagreed with me at summer league that Bolomboy was gonna get cut.

I'm not sure I could accurately tell who are "Quin's guys" and who are "DL's guys" in a lot of cases.

I guess Quin's guys are the guys that got playing time? But aren't several of them DL's guys, too?
I never said a thing about who Quin's guys are. Obviously his guys are the ones that play minutes and the ones he doesn't like are ones who don't get minutes.

Morgan and Brantley are clearly DL guys who Quin didn't like. They never got minutes even when it made sense to give them minutes or they played well.

Niang is Quin's guy 1000%. Exum drove him nuts. NWG shouldn't have even been mentioned and his inclusion made me chuckle.

I think Brantley is not one of his guys... explains why he hasn't seen time because I thought there was a chance he could have showed something.

I think Oni is definitely a DL guy too. I think Quin played him because he had nothing else. The way DL talked about Oni you'd have thought we had Lu Dort on the damn bench.

Funny how DL waived Uncle Jeff so he could sign Rayjon Tucker, only to spend a second round pick six months later just to get rid of him.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Matt Thomas receiving the same treatment in the next few days.
uess I get why everyone is down on Thomas, but he’s got some skills, and some important valued nba skills. I think a training camp in Utah and preseason would do him good. He looks like he could be a nice role player IMO.

Here's what I don't like... It seems as though young guys will struggle to find their way into the rotation under Quin. I think they need to understand there is a long term trade off when you play younger guys.

I also don't like that DL didn't swap the guys out enough to bring in someone Quin felt was good enough to invest in.

probably right about Azubuike. Whether he turns out to be a player sometime, somewhere, I do see something of DL's thinking (though would have preferred to go after a wing at the time, personally) in that if the Jazz are going to prioritize having a drop-coverage big, at least he's someone that looks like he might have the potential to abuse a 6-7 wing guarding him down low.

It's still kind of weird to me that Quin really likes Clarkson despite hating Burks.

I think there are some traits that just drive Snyder crazy.

Unless that training camp involves growing a few inches and becoming much faster, then I think he needs to get his passport ready. So basically lets keep the shooting... and get rid of everything else.

I think JC has a little better thought process on where he wants to go... I also wonder if Quin learned sometimes you just have to let it ride. IDK it seems weird. I think Brantley fits in the Burks mold of he's just kinda doing **** out there.

I don't mind it in the second round. I also don't mind it if you don't sign a guy to a three year deal at $10M per year to fill the role you are drafting for. If there was some Rudy pivot planned... I guess.

I just don't think there was that much of a plan. And I honestly think this type of pick is some scared-y cat drafting. Can't start to judge the pick for three years.

Gotta note that Rudy was left to rot on the bench in his rookie season with Corbin before Quin came in and made him the player that he is today.

We've seen DL working with a different coach in Corbin in 2013. It's time to see what Quin can do with a different GM in charge.

I don't think Quin necessarily has guys. I don't think he was unfair towards end of the bench either. Best players got the most minutes so he may have wanted better competition where it mattered. Ie wings.

Just trying to say that I don't really know what to expect if more of Quin's influence is apparent in future player acquisitions. Not sure that it will be what many us us sideline analysts may prefer.

I'm guessing he prefers vets like most coaches. They very much prefer the known. There is a case that the GM might not want to give a guy a veteran if he wants him to play the young guy... I don't think most of our young guys have enormous potential so Quin probably didn't want to take the bruises.

He needs to be more flexible... but he also needs a roster with some vets in spots 10-15. If we were not trying to win a title then sure... give me 5 development guys. Since we are a contender it needed to be like 2 development guys, 2 two-way guys... and some useable vets that help you matchup or cover for injuries.

Honestly, it sounds like either Quin or DL should have moved on several years ago. When the coach and GM aren't on the same page, it's really harmful to the franchise. I wonder if the benching/non-benching of Conley last year came close to a breaking point.

Although neither is blameless, I'm glad DL is the one moving on.

Sounds like DL went rogue on his scouting staff as well... he was basically on an island with Udoka and said "**** yall Imma do me!"
