What's new

DNC

When I was in highschool here in NZ, there was a Ms. Ferguson who looked like she was in her 30s ... she was the only "Ms." at our school at the time, and it made us all wonder about all sorts of things ... is she married? is she divorced? is she single, but don't want to get married?

Then she got married to another teacher at the same school.. (a really nice guy, chemistry teacher, Mr. McKinnon), but Ms. Ferguson kept her surname, and the mystery still remained to this day.
The kids couldn't solve the mystery even though they knew who she was married to? You didn't go to a detective school, did you.

That's the problem with the "Ms." prefix IMO ... it still has a stigma for the 'curious minds'.

and yet "Mr." presents no such challenge...

That was part of the point behind "Ms." - to level the playing field so to speak

But I'm guessing the proper form of address would be "Madame President"

And I think that's why the Thai female PM went with allowing "Miss" to be used by all.. it is aimed to be the equivalence of "Mr." ... i.e. "Mrs." is expected to be a redundant prefix in the future.
