Do Jazz get room exception or MLE?

Oh nm to my questions. There is no way to get the full MLE if the deal goes through July 6th. We have to be over the soft cap by then to get the full MLE I believe.

Hence we must waive Favors.

Hence we must waive Favors.

I can see the advantages at this point to it. I still like Favors and am not sure we can get a player as good as him with the money. But we do need to fill in a few spots that we might be able to do with his money. But it depends how cheap some other players go for. If we can get a stretch 4 for really cheap then we dont need to. But if not we might be in trouble filling in the roster.

Sorry for repeating content from the other thread:

This trade is agreed to in principle. If the Jazz and Grizzlies can find a third team interested in a Rubio S&T, with Memphis acquiring an additional asset, perhaps the Jazz can retain the full MLE.

But remember we don't get his full salary to work with if the Jazz do that. We only get the portion of his salary that takes the Jazz up to the cap. I forget what that is, but perhaps $12 million rather than $18 million. Something like that, I think. So waiving Favors is by no means the clear best thing to do.

Guys we can get:

1. Jabari.
2. Love.
3. Niko.
4. Gallo.
5. Rudy Gay.
6. JaMychal Green.
7. Aminu.

Hell yes I’d take any one of those guys over the current setup.

Waive him or trade him for Love or Gallo.

And we would need a backup center. No way we play any one of those guys at Center

**** a backup center. We need a starting and closing PF. You can grab backup centers on the cheap. We can get 70% of Favors’ production at 1/6 the cost.

I would not take any of those over Favors. But if we could get one of those guys and another solid Wing I think it might be a good move.

Oh, except Love. I want no part of that. I am on the fence about Jabari. I would be okay with him as a backup but not as a projected starter. Also we would have to pick up 2 of those for depth at PF.

I would rather pick up Mike Scott for vet Min and then use our room exception on Caruso, or another shooting wing and keep Favors. Then we would have the BAE to use since we got over the soft cap.

But I think we have options. We can also see how FA goes to start July 1st and what agreements we get. If we can get someone we want we dont have to waive Favors until the 5th. Keep our options alive.

You used to have a really irrational love for Jabari, kinda like your love for Favors now.

But, yes, there are a lot of holes we’re refusing to patch in the roster to have the luxury of the best backup center in the league.

So because I don’t really see any of the reporters saying what the Jazz can do to get the MLE, I’m assuming they can’t in any scenario? I know we can free up cap space by waiving Favors, but does using that cap space then open up the MLE afterwards? It doesn’t sound like it.

It we had the ~$17 million from Favors and then the MLE I think we have to waive him. But unless keeping him just to waive him makes sense from a salary perspective for us (does it?) then I assume we don’t plan to release Faves.

I still like the upside of him. I just dont want to rely on that upside. I really like Exum and his upside but I also dont want him to be our main option going into the season. I guess if we had Mike Scott or JaMychal Greeen as well I would be down for grabbing him depending on the price.

I honestly dont know what players will go for this year. Teams have a ton of space but there is a ton of FAs. I think there will be some really solid pickups for cheap.

And we’ll sacrifice that by having a backup center that makes at least 3x what any other backup center in the league makes.

I think we can pickup solid players for what we have in min contracts, trade exception, and BAE.

Also Favors is our starting PF not backup. Especially now that we have a PG that can shoot. Gobert/Favors are great together when that is the case.

But again if July 1st we can get some really good players committed for a reasonable price I think it could be wise to waive Favors. But we also might not be able to get better value.

Good thing the team was smart and made his waive date July 5th so we can see what our options are first.

He isnt available but I would happily trade Favors for Aaron Gordon. Doubt they would do that though. If we had more salary to send out I would take Fournier with Gordon. Exum Favors isnt enough.

Keeping Favors’ salary with the expectation of trading it would raise the inevitable discussion about how whoever it is we’re looking to trade for isn’t as good as Favors.

I would love to trade Favors for some who is almost as good as him and a better fit. Whom did you have in mind?

Edit: I saw your list after this post. We lose a lot of defense in our starting unit with any of those options. I'm not sure if we actually improve.

We don’t have the MLE or BAE just the room exception. We are using cap space in the trade to meet the salary matching requirements... we don’t have space until we waive our capholds and free agency opens... you don’t get to use space and also use exceptions... one or the other. If we did the Ricky sign and trade then we are using someone else’s space. I highly doubt that happens.
