Do the Refs Determine the outcome of most NBA games?

Thirteen refs have already been caught in NBA betting scandals. Star players never get touched and you can usually tell from the first 10 minutes who will win based on the officiating.

Yes.
Juest Ask Rick Adelman, who was flat robbed when he was coaching Sacramento Kings vs the LA Lakers in the playoffs a few years ago. Perhaps the most infamous game 6 ever!

repped. That game made me sick. I hate the lakers. And adelman's team was balls-out awesome.

The bad thing is that Stern can practically determine outcome based on which refs are assigned to ref a game....

fwiw Derrick Rose was fined $25,000 today for criticizing the refs in last night's Bulls vs. Knicks game

Here's your answer. Only 8 teams have won the championship in the past 20 years. It's been going on for a while. And as much as I appreciate Jordan and what He did for the game. He pushed off on Brian Russell and No call by 3 officials. Or you can look at several clips by Bruce Bowen in the playoffs. Spurs were handed the W.

Yes, that Spurs game was a real eye opener for me. So bad for the game.

Everyone always brings up the shove-off on Russel.

That just hides the real robbery that took place: Eisley's 3 being disallowed even though replays showed that he got it off in time, and then Harper's late 2 that was obviously after the shotclock went off, but allowed.

The worst game that the spurs were handed was game 4 in SLC when they shot something like 25 free throws in the 4th quarter. I was at that game. I thought the crowd was going to freak out and rush the court.

"REF, YOU SUCK!"

Just read Personal Foul by the ref who was caught giving info to the mob. It spells it out, and if you've been watching the NBA for a while, it completely rings true.

I remember being so excited for Basketball when the lockout ended.

And within the first few preseason games, I remember how much I hated NBA referees.

Remember when we lost to the 4 win Hornets because we were only rewarded 1 free throw until halfway through the third quarter?

Just last week when the Heat played the Lakers, the ref's paved the way for a Laker W right from the tip off. Dwayne Wade was had out for by the officials. And towards the end they were calling a foul If anyone exhaled breath in the direction of Kobe. There were enough bad calls and No calls that I wouldn't be able to count them on fingers and toes. Shane Battier obviously blocked Kobe's turn around shot in the 4th and the 3 blind mice blew the whistle. That was just one of many plays but it makes me think of what I read in Tim Donaghy's book about his days officiating the NBA. That is still happening! And when a player speaks out (Derrick Rose) they are fined at least 25k. That's a steep fine for someone telling just a fraction of the truth behind a game.

As much as I like the NBA for entertainment value, sometimes I wonder if there is more involved at times than just the refs.

Too often you have games like this.....

"Team *** was up 16 heading into the 4th, but went 2-18 shooting and lost by 2 to Team YYYY, what a comeback by team YYY"

I don't buy it. These athletes are the top 1/2% in the world. They are the best of the best of the best. There is no way a team like that all of a sudden can't shoot. Just dont buy it.
I still watch the games, but its games like this that make me wonder if there are scripted games at times for entertainment value

/end conspiracy :)

Some food for thought: A couple of years before Karl Malone retired, he stated quite clearly in an interview that he was looking forward to his retirement speach, so he could tell everyone what REALLY goes on in the NBA and that his revelations would amaze everyone.
It actually made me look forward to Karl retiring (sort of).
Unfortunately, his retirement speach was nothing of the sort.

Chew on that for a while. Lots of different thing can come up from that...eh
