Being just under the salary cap is pretty sub optimal. Unless you can REALLY get under the cap. Losing Royce and Clarkson for whatever we dredge from the river would be pretty silly, especially as the free agent class next year is pretty sorry. We can keep Clarkson (or whatever we flip him for,) keep Royce, sign Favors, and probably something else as Favors probably doesn't command the full MLE. We will have to go over the luxury tax at some point, but I'm not terribly worried about it right now.
The Jazz have Royce’s rights, it’s up to the Jazz if Royce leaves. If we were going to get a discount in an extension, it would’ve already happened. Furthermore, extending him zaps even the possibility of cap, where not extending him could mean retaining him AND getting a player in free agency.

We can’t extend Clarkson. If it goes well, the Jazz are likely in the driver’s seat in retaining him, at which point the Jazz don’t have that cap space. But worst-case scenario, they do. If they retain his Bird rights, then they still have the full MLE.

The Jazz could have ~$11 million in cap space plus the room MLE which couldn’t be said previously. It’s just a fact and a good thing. In contrast to the situation we were in with Exum’s bonkers contract, it actually is optimal.

Worst case scenario that could be Favors and Crowder.

Or Favors and Gallinari. Or Clarkson and Favors. The Jazz have options. Exum’s contract was a total ****ing millstone and this is a coup even if Clarkson is suddenly terrible. I figured it would take two seconds just to dump Exum for a garbage player.

Feeling better by the minute.

Don't crucify me for this but Royce isn't all that. His friggin ballerina pump fake travel gets on my nerves. Clarkson will make a bigger impact in my opinion

It would be way out of character for the Jazz to flip him without giving him the rest of the year to see what we got. I say he sticks for the rest of the year and then he will be a UFA, right? I don't think he is back next year. This seems like a flexibility move as much as a fix the bench move.
How is it way out of character? They traded for Rose then released him before he showed up.

I posted this in another thread, but I knew Clarkson was scoring around 15 ppg but just realized it was in only 23 minutes. I assumed it’d be closer to 30. His points per minute have been pretty high his whole career. Maybe he can be our Lou Williams.

By some metrics, Clarkson is having a better (at least offensive) season. Only big advantage Williams has is assists and free-throws drawn. But Clarkson is higher in shooting efficiency numbers and 3-pter volume.

Dude he does, be more sensitive in noticing it next game. I will remind you if need be. Hope you are enjoying your Christmas
Cant find the stats for this year, but last year he averaged .07 travels per game. You are probably just being really short-sighted and remembering a few calls and not putting it in proper context.

Sorry I had to dispel your lazy narrative.

Last year , don't be sorry when stating this years stats ... I'm sure you will be humbled.

He has not traveled at any higher rate this year, and IF he has it's due to the league wide crackdown on starting drives off with pushing off the back foot.

He has and it has resulted in many turnovers. He has a very unorthodox dribble penetration dish especially when the shot clock is winding down. Majority of the time he forces it and travels.

He's averaging 9 more MPG this year and is averaging the exact same number of turnovers per game as last year.

You are just being extremely stupid if you think Royce travels at a higher rate than the average player. If anything it's lower.

And literally the only time he travels is off the split leg starts to his drives, which is how the majority of the NBA travels, and that has nothing to do with forcing anything.

No one said anything about the average player, so your assumption of me stating that made you extremely stupid. I said I hate when travels alot when the shot clock is expiring.

What does travels a lot mean? It's being compared against something and I'm guessing it isnt how much insurance salesman travel.

Where are you getting the $11M figure from?

Yeah, you have little to no basketball IQ and can't backup your claims. You can't even quantify your own beliefs.

Glad your IQ is so superior what level of ball have you played ? NBA 2k beginner level ?
My own beliefs are consistent with this forum that no one likes you.
