Saw this article and thought it was quite note worthy

Some quotes from it I found interesting:

"During one three-hour practice, Wiggins misfired on jumper after jumper, took plays off and was practically invisible. Sure, he showed glimpses of the athleticism that have some putting him in elite company with NBA superstars."

"But Wiggins eventually blended in during the practice last week. It wasn't the first time he's disappeared. In fact, Kansas coaches maintain that the 6-foot-8 Canadian has yet to be the best player on the floor in any of their practices thus far. To take it one step further, he's rarely even one of the best two or three players on the floor."

"He doesn't shoot it great, and he's got zero aura about him. Again, I'm not saying he can't get there -- but people are making far more of this kid than they should."

"I certainly wasn't blown away by him," said one high-ranking NBA executive. "He was just OK. Average. I'm just not buying all this no-brainer stuff about him being the No. 1 pick. I just don't see it yet."

Very interesting stuff. Guess he is still a young kid and the critique might be a little too scathing. Nonetheless, it does scare you a little bit. What are your thoughts regarding this article?

This may all be true.. and the one knock (and only one) on Wiggins is his lack of killer instinct/alpha male.

Having said that, Jeff Goodman and Bill Self are like best friends and I GUARANTEE you Self asked Goodman to write that article so he could use it to motivate Wiggins and temper expectations a bit. Self has done horribly with top rated recruits and he can't afford, imo, to have Wiggins be anything than the #1 pick.

Yes, I believe he will be the #1 pick. Way too much upside and he'll perform well enough to not lose the spot.

Id be happy with him, but I would also be excited for randle, Parker, Harrison, and a lot of other guys.

You never know with the draft. Players come out so early now that a lot of who they become is still a guess. Just look at our own Marvin Williams, plenty of physical talent, taken number 2, but doesn't have the mentality to lead a team. Can't even start for a whole season. Was it the injury? Or was it because he doesn't like the pressure? Hard to tell that on draft night.

This isn't the first time I've heard similar rumblings on Wiggins. I'm still a skeptic, personally. He certainly has the tools - we all see that. Probably a notch above Jabari and Randle. But I am always skeptical of guys who have the tools but haven't put it all together vs. guys who just have it/are gamers.

I'm really anxious to watch this season unfold.

Wiggins / Parker... who cares. I just want one (or both) of them.

Wiggins a bust, smart goes back to school (again) and Jabari goes on a mission. Because the jazz are tanking

I remember similar criticisms of lebron when he was coming out..... he turned out ok.

Nothing to see here

My guess is his current ability to impact the college and NBA game have been over-hyped a tad, but his potential is as good as advertised.

Wiggins is not as polished as Parker.
He's not as alpha male want-to-eat-your-children as Randle.

Has more upside, by far, than either.

in 2003, cleveland made the best decision select lebron over melo in fact melo is a better all around player.

But in turkish we have a expression that mean history doesn't repeat.

DRAFT JABARİ PARKER NOT TRAVIS OUTLAW

_ that outlaw surname is perfect

Good hell.

Good.

Hell.

I don't care if the guy stabbed his own mother and signs up at abortion clinics every weekend. One youtube video tells me everything I need to know about who to draft #1. You Own The Canadian.

If Wiggins comes out and looks meh through out the whole season I'll second guess him. He does have to perform at an exceptional level at least 1/3 of the time.

There is zero reason to be concerned now over these pre-season reports.

Not doubting this statement at all, just curious of some examples because I'm not too familiar with any top fifteen recruits Self has gotten. I know Xavier Henry was a highly ranked prospect, but he sucks in the NBA so I'm not sure Self could have gotten more from him. McLemore was highly ranked maybe, but Self did well with him I thought. I just am not sure Self has really gotten that many top ten recruits, I am probably wrong.

I recall a writer calling Malone lazy and a potential bust. I am sure he is a tad overrated but I will wait until I actually pay a few games. One deal killer for me is a player's mental approach to the game, if I suspect one player has grit and mental toughness vs a slightly more athletic player, I will take the gritty player everyday of the week.

MJ and Kobe, regardless what you think of them and their physical talents both guys are tough as nails mentally.

As far as the draft goes, I just want the Jazz to get an alpha dog but two would be great. No Marvin Williams please!
