Not doubting this statement at all, just curious of some examples because I'm not too familiar with any top fifteen recruits Self has gotten. I know Xavier Henry was a highly ranked prospect, but he sucks in the NBA so I'm not sure Self could have gotten more from him. McLemore was highly ranked maybe, but Self did well with him I thought. I just am not sure Self has really gotten that many top ten recruits, I am probably wrong.

Josh Selby was #1 per Rivals.
Thomas Robinson didn't seem to round out his game..
More when I'm not driving.

He's a kid. He might be great, he might be craptastic. Only time will tell. We have a whole year to decide who to pick with the GS #1 and our own #4.

in 2003, cleveland made the best decision select lebron over melo in fact melo is a better all around player.

<laughs hysterically>

I guess you don't realize that Lebron is quite possibly the best all around player IN NBA HISTORY. I'd put Magic and Oscar Robertson in the discussion, and I'm not sure who else. Carmelo may or may not even make the Hall of Fame. I'm guessing not.

Edit: or maybe you were saying Melo was a better all around player at the time. Is that it? I don't remember his draft evaluations, so I can't comment on that one.

^Melo was not even close to being as coveted as Lebron in that draft. Lebron was viewed, even then, as a generational type player.

You have to throw Bird and Jordan in to the all around player discussion.

Right now if the draft were today, you can't afford to pass on wiggins only to see him become the next LBJ.

This.

Go back to 2003. Where would Wade go? Anthony? Bosh?

If the Jazz get a top 3 pick and they take someone and miss out on Wade then I'll be sad. Very sad.

I think MOST everyone feels the way I do.

If we have the #1 pick there is no choice but to draft Wiggins.
If we go #2 or #3 and end up with Parker, we'll never look back and be upset we got him.

This may all be true.. and the one knock (and only one) on Wiggins is his lack of killer instinct/alpha male.

Having said that, Jeff Goodman and Bill Self are like best friends and I GUARANTEE you Self asked Goodman to write that article so he could use it to motivate Wiggins and temper expectations a bit. Self has done horribly with top rated recruits and he can't afford, imo, to have Wiggins be anything than the #1 pick.

Yes, I believe he will be the #1 pick. Way too much upside and he'll perform well enough to not lose the spot.

That's genius.

Unless Randle has shown that he could DOMINATE at the SF position this year.

you don't say this when my man jabari parker dominates and take the throphy

jus like my man carmelo anthony aka best player in the universe.(homer)

I've still got a question mark over Parker's athleticism. He seems to have that old man's body and he's only in college so I don't know if it can get much better or not.

Randle on the other hand is a BEAST and he's HUNGRY with a capital "H".

Arvydas Sabonis can't even jump when he came to Portland. He doesn't even run. He walked during the game yet he can play pretty well.

I don't compare their games or the game style of this era and arvydas' era, but athlethism means nothing to me.

His athletism is better than 2013 carmelo's and you know 2013 season is carmelo's best year.

So, imo his athletism isn't a question mark and i hope jazz don't make a mistake selecting travis outlaw 2.

Sabonis doesn't play the SF/SG positions though does he?

let's do this my way

if we go #5 to #8, would you trade this pick + gs pick + burke to move up and take one of this guys or maybe randle?

i think it's a no brainer but none of the top3 will bite

lol

and

lol
Yes, definitely two lol's up for me with those posts.

I know I'll get ripped for this, but I believe (without a shadow of a doubt) Utah has a better chance of keeping Jabari as a lifer than they do Wiggins. Wiggins may be the better talent, but Parker might be the better long-term fit. Wiggins = Deron. He'd stay on a MAX contract until he could become an UFA. Dude is getting a MONSTER contract from Adidas or Nike (close to $200M). Those companies want Wiggins in a MAJOR market. Whatever Wiggins would have to sacrifice initially by bolting would be more than made up by in endorsements.

It would be very interesting, indeed, if the Jazz had their choice between the two. If I were DL in that case I'd take a decent asset from the #2 team to trade down, let them draft Wiggins and then take Parker.
