What's new

Do you think the Jazz will have to battle some terrible officiating to get in the playoffs over LA?

Watching that makes me want to not even watch the NBA anymore. If there truly was an agenda to favor the Lakers, It is a Slap in the face in all our faces... But if they were just bad calls made and that is it, i'd be more okay with it. I wonder how the refs would explain some of these calls.

Easy. Protocol is to give the Lakers every possible chance.

If the Jazz were actually playing the Lakers there could be a problem. But it's not like the refs can make us lose back to back to the T'wolves.

But as for this year, I don't think the Jazz have anything to be worried about. I honestly don't think the refs have an agenda from the NBA to get the Lakers into the playoffs (or keep the Jazz or Mavs or anyone else out).

Have you been watching their games? I watched both of their recent losses to GS and the Bucks -- they were calling every ticky tack foul and in some cases not even fouls made on Kobe. In both games, Kobe had only three less foul shots than the entire number taken by GS and the Bucks (most of them in the 4th quarter when the refs were doing everything to help the Lakers make a comeback). It was absolutely ridiculous. I didn't see the SAC game but I heard Cousins got hammered late by Howard when taking a three and there was no call. You know he has an agenda, not the refs, I'm talking about Herr Stern, and they're doing his bidding.

I loved it how announcers always talked about the Lakers' "tough interior defense" which mainly consisted of giving Bynum, Odom and Gasol free reign to foul the heck out of anyone who ventured into the paint.

Length... it was all about length. but yes, you have a point.

I've been wondering this for years... how and why heck does't the NBA ever make it a fair game ... I think the only way it will ever be changed is if the owners got together and made some serious threats ... I guess with so much money at stake there isn't much you can hope for :-( even david stern himself has stated it's first ENTERTAINMENT .. and then a game.. unfortunately the Lakers are the equivalent of the Harlem Globe-trotters ... so I guess were a way talented Washington Generals team or something lol

I watched the conspiracy theory video in one of the other threads. The way I understood the question is whether or not the refs would be screwing the Jazz over, which I don't think will be the case.

There are always going to be questionable calls.

Utah historically fouls a lot inside, especially in the fourth quarter. They can't/won't call them all. Refs typically have to side with calling a foul whenever you "enter a player's space" on jump shooting. You definitely see this more often in the fourth quarter.

I'm not saying it is right. But if all games were called "even handed" then most players would be fouled out in the fourth quarter.

I remember that game -- ridiculous. I especially remember the play with Vucajovich kicking it out and AK not touching him and the Gasol push off of Okur. Stern's NBA sucks.
