What's new

Does anyone still like this team?

I know I'm branching off from the current discussion, but my prediction is that, 20 years from now, assuming the franchise is still in Utah, the rafters will have Rudy Gobert's jersey, but not Donovan Mitchell's.
I think about this especially with Hayward. If we traded Donovan this offseason he is in danger of not having his jersey retired by any team... like Hayward. He has more time left and may do amazing in NY or wherever he lands... but he might end up going some place for 3 years then leaving to go to NY... then he's kind of a transient player.

I'm not going to hate on the guy. If we do trade him it isn't because Ryan and Ainge have stones and are willing to be bold... its because Donovan was honest with them. Asking out of a market is not the worst thing in the world, so long as the demand is made in a professional way and isn't followed up with BS like Simmons pulled. Don coming to management and telling them "I won't re-sign here... I don't want to be here with Rudy... and if we aren't good I won't be happy so it might be best for both of us to look for a trade." It happens... it isn't the end of the world. We can get a haul for him and plan accordingly. The BS with Hayward set us back because he wouldn't commit.... we made moves like he would commit... then he took off. It can be like PG in OKC. OKC got a **** ton of stuff and PG got out.

Is it possible the jazz just have a hard time caring coming down the stretch because they’ve been hurt and injured to key guys that it’s hard to be motivated but come playoff time that we are healthy this team will be motivated? I’m just looking for a sign that we might have a shot at at least winning a series or more.

They are motivated, it's just they are easily thrown off mentally. Donovan is too selfish to unify the team because he knows if they actually fed Gobert, he would get more credit than Donovan.

I know many of you posters out there are afraid of the backlash you would get for speaking up, but many of you should be ashamed how yall let a few posters on here personally attack Donovan Mitchell again and again and again.

Donovan's sister just ate at California Pizza kitchen. So is Donovan going to the Clippers or Lakers oneye?

You should change your name from oneye to the oracle.
Nostradumbass would be more appropriate.
Donovan is going to demand one of two things:

TRADE RUDY - I think this is what Donovan wants. Their relationship has been strained for some time now, and they have both tried to make it work. I think they annoy the ever living **** out of each other, and you can see that the team doesn't have fun. Ingles alluded to being peacemaker. I'm not going to blame either guy (Rudy or Don). Just separate them. Picking Don over Rudy is the simple decision for the long term health of the franchise. If Utah wants to trade Don at the deadline or even next summer, we still have that opportunity.

TRADE ME - I don't think Don will be here his entire career (not contract sorry), but I also don't think he will ask out this summer. If we refuse to trade Rudy, he might.
You are probably right, and he'll probably regret it. Jazz fans will regret option 1 more of the two.

Donovan is not going to let you S his D so stop white knighting so hard

I think that it's too far reaching. Obviously there is some animosity between the two but I don't think that Donovan can feel threaten by Rudy's success. Even if Rudy averaged 20 pts everyone would say that it's just because he s spoon fed, he will never be even close to flashy enough on offense to steal Donovan's thunder. And last game Donovan actually had some really nice passes to Rudy. I guess they just simply dislike each other personality and it's a pitty.

@oneye’s idea of dealing Donovan before it’s too late isn’t exactly bad. Shame is he has been such a ****ing ******* on this board instead of thoughtfully portraying his thoughts. He’s become full on obsessive but can’t really do victory laps because he’s been such an idiot on here.
I could take a bigger victory lap, I pounded on the subject because it was so obvious it was on its way a lot sooner than most here seem to have anticipated. It will be this summer or next summer he demands a trade. It was blatantly obvious how he had changed, and that he is all in on Donovan’s success not necessarily this team or franchises success.

It's one thing to quote some insider who has an opinion on what the thinks he hears. Tim has opinions and it seemed to me that Lowe differed with him often.

It's another thing to take shots at Donovan based off your own feelings. Compartmentalize your personal hatred for Donovan so we can have a civil conversation.
I’ll take shots at the douche any time I want, he’s a loser.

So you think we should keep Donovan but also that he won't be here his entire contract? Trading Rudy means next year is a struggle/pivot year... maybe you make the 7/8 seed... maybe. Donovan only has 2 years left on his deal at that time and now all the noise about him wanting out gets LOUD... it won't be fun.
Tim agrees. If you trade Rudy trade them both because Donovan will be asking for a trade within a year regardless.

If you're the first person to tell the world there is an asteroid coming and that gives us enough time to do something about it you have something to be proud of.

If you're the first person to **** on a player on a basketball team and eventually that player becomes unpopular with the fanbase you're just the first *******. Congratulations!

Donovan’s legacy here will not be much after what takes place in the next 12-16 months. I think it’s going to get messy, because I don’t think Ainge will just do whatever he asks, Ainge probably won’t budge for a bit, and won’t care where he trades him. He’ll want the best assets. Donovan and his CAA Lackeys will push back and the hood will Donovan built will be torn down. He’ll have a couple 2nd round exits and that’ll pretty much be all there is of his Jazz career. A bit sad when you look at what his first couple years were like.

I have no problem being an *******. I’m still a right *******. I could see exactly what road we were starting to go down with Donovan and well, here we are. It’s only gonna get worse too. The Jazz should trade him THIS summer before he narrows down trade partners with a demand. He may even demand it this summer according to MacMahon and MacMahon has been beating the drum for months the noise is going to get very loud immediately after this season ends. Trade the douche as fast as you possibly can at this point.

I think there are reasons to trade both guys. Rudy's contract gets scary if he has a serious injury... I just think the best path forward is to trade them both as wild as that would have seemed a year ago.

I think with the play in and the fact that so many teams refuse to bottom out it creates an opportunity to be more effective with our tank. Using our vet contracts to help teams trying to win will create even more assets... those assets and the draft are a bet/gamble... so you just tilt the odds in your favor as much as you can.
Yeah, I get the reasons to blow it up. We likely aren't contending without a high level offensive player like Donovan. If the only goal is to win a title we should reset the clock early and get as many assets as possible for our aging vets.

I just prefer to have a competitive team for longer, even if it's not a true title contender. I think you can build a fun team around Gobert with the assets you should be able to get from Donovan then can be competitive for at least a couple more years.
