Does Lauri Get Traded?

Does Lauri Get Dealt Before The Season Starts?

Sorry, I misunderstood what you meant.

It happens all the time. I’m pretty sure San Antonio has enough cap space to take into the season to R&E him if they wanted to.
Right but if only one team can do that then it makes Lauri less valuable right?

Like it's better to have multiple bidders driving up the price rather than just one bidder I think.

So he is less likely to be traded because for most teams they would risk it being a 1 year rental

The Spurs are one of the only teams that could have enough cap space to take into the season to R&E Lauri.
Yep and because of that I would say he is less likely to be traded right now

That isn’t true. They could be above but still have 14.1M to use on Lauri. Which is enough to get him close to a 30% max.
It really isn’t, though. An extra ~$14 million gets him to ~$32 million and the 30% max is ~$42 million. Add in the decreased base salary to the successive years and that’s a $40 million shortfall on the contract.

Brother, the extra 14M is just for this year. The max extension is the extra years based off of this years salary.

Now we’re back to where I thought we were: Given that the Jazz probably won’t get the package needed to pry him away largely due to his contract status, he’s probably just getting the R&E and heading into the season shopping him for a trade deadline move.

If there really was a package of Dort and at least 3 firsts at the deadline… prrrobably should’ve just taken it.

I agree with your first paragraph.

I disagree with your second one. **** dort and 3 firsts ain't enough especially if they OKC picks.

I hope so, but the renegotiation piece seems like it changes the nature of the thing. In either case, Lauri still loses at least $10 million.

That’s why I said “prrrobably”: we don’t know what the picks were. I’m choosing to believe they weren’t garbage because that’s an unserious offer and I don’t think Presti is unserious.

However, I am also calculating the tank/2025 Jazz pick value difference with having Lauri vs not.

I was pretty confident he wont get traded with this contract which is what I have reiterated many times over the past few weeks.

However NBA teams know these rules, and they know we wont sell him cheap, and Windy still said what he said. He also reiterated that the price wont be cheap if it happens.

So the Thunder just spent $19 million to re-sign Isaiah Joe and Aaron Wiggins unnecessarily early. They could’ve positioned themselves to get a penny above the salary floor WITH Hartenstein to keep the R&E possibility alive and bid on Lauri but just shrugged it off. But hey, when you have the opportunity to lock up totally mid players at the expense of bringing in the piece that might put you over the top, you have to do it.

I get the feeling he and Ainge don’t get along.

Sith rarely co-exist.

The Magic still have plenty of cap space to trade for Lauri and R&E him as well.

I don’t think Golden State would really worry about him being a one year rental. I could see them doing it regardless.

Yeah, it really feels like they may have just blown a golden opportunity to build a dynasty with a pretty meh offseason

I'd agree. This is why I've been saying to expect less than Bridges (despite Lauri being a better player IMO). Bridges was seen in similar regard to Lauri IMO, but he has another year on his deal and is as certain as you can get to resign bc all his buddies are on the Knicks. You take on a great deal of risk as a team acquiring Lauri.

A useful reference point to this may be Pascal Siakam. He was traded on an expiring deal. However much better than Siakam you believe Lauri is, we can expect that much more. Siakam was traded for Bruce Brown + OKC 24 (turned into #29) + IND 24 (turned into #19) + IND 26 (top 4 protected)

The difference is that Pascal was on the market. You have to show up with a deal that PUTS Lauri on the market or the Jazz will be just as happy to keep him, sign him, and turn him into an even bigger asset.

I think unless Steph is rattling cages that they will be a little measured in what they do. They have to see their mortality staring at them in the face. So curious to see what happens here and the fallout.

I mean they just offered a bunch of stuff for Paul George. I don’t think Lauri is that far off of a player and is a lot younger.

To be fair, this was fair criticism of Ainge: he’s such a bastard that some people just won’t work with him even at their own (and DA’s team’s, of course) expense.
