Top 5 is not critical in the slightest. If you can shame tank your way to it towards the end, go for it, but I don't see the need to do anything outside of what Danny has currently done, keep the roster young while retaining your core talent until someone buys so high on them it doesn't make sense to say no.
I want one of those top 5 guys badly. There may be a few other guys that emerge of course but 9-10th would be really disappointing to me.

It feels like we’re on a path right now where we’re just going to keep doing what we did the last two years into the foreseeable future. There’s not a better time than now to **** or get off the pot. I vote we ****.

I tend to agree.

But my brain is also apparently obsessed with the idea that the jazz should tell Lauri and Collin some version of, "Look, how about one more year where we ask you both to get well out of your comfort zone and expand your games into different skill sets? We'll lose a lot of games just one more year.... blah blah...."

Then again, both have followed NBA enough to know how borderline impossible it's to draw A-tier talent to Utah via FA and trades. They both should ask out from the tank, chances of winning in Utah more than maybe one or two playoff series are slim to none next 3-4 years. Which is the heart of their prime, coincidentally.

As the team is currently constructed I think the best case is they are extremely plucky team that doesnt pathetically lose games.

Even if Walker establishes himself as the 10th-15th best center in the NBA the fact remains is that the other center capable players are Drew Eubanks, John Collins, and Kyle Filipowski.

Even if Sexton takes another jump into a borderline AS, his backup is a rookie and Keyonte is a second year player.

I think people just have too much trauma from 2023. Less teams are tanking in the West compared to that season. The Jazz have far less veterans than they had that season. Lauri isn't going to shock the world like he did that season.

If the team is somehow decent because Keyonte and Hendricks and/or the rookies are amazing that is far better than being the 4th worst record of it means you're still in that bottom 8 range.
I think you have to take into consideration that other teams are going to see the strength of the 2025 draft and engage in their own tank-o-rama. There's going to be more competition for the bottom 5 slots than we realize now. Whether because of legit injuries or sheer ballsiness, it's going to be a fight to get to the bottom.

I think we may be able to do it a little better and end 6th or 7th because of young players... but we are like a Jordan Clarkson resurgence away from ****ing that up too. I don't think either JC is moved as of right now.

Just keep everyone outside of Clarkson/Collins.

If Sexton/Lauri/Kessler and company are so good they are winning games in a stacked West it's a good problem to have.

Given the fact you have a roster of 7 players under 22 who can all get minutes, I don't think that is happening and if it is then it's amazing.

If GS does come to DA and say "okay JK, Podz, Moody, all the picks and swaps" is that too good to say no to for him? What piece does he say "okay they can have that back". Is that piece really meaningful and worth it?

Clarkson’s volatile swing can win you some games if you’re competitive enough, but Clarkson doesn’t really help a team be competitive. In other words, he’s more of a ceiling raiser than a floor raiser.

We need to take a backhoe to the floor.

I think I realize the landscape of the NBA currently.

I'm sure some teams will pivot to tanking once their season goes a way, but we know who the players will be for the most part. It's not going to be nearly as blatant as the Wemby year.

And again, I'm not concerned about getting to the bottom

If it wasn't good enough I'm not sure why you are entertaining the Warriors at all

I'm also mentally incapable of really caring too much about the 2025 draft when I haven't even been able to evaluate my thoughts by watching the 2024 class play.

If he walks on that he should be committed. I also get the sense that this is kinda what is happening/just happened.

I’m very much looking forward to when Ainge is sent to pasture and we enter the Brad Stevens-equivalent reign.

But last year may have been as bad as he can play. I suppose we don't have Dunn which will be helpful in losing. If we get what we got last year from JC... not a really big deal... if he plays better then the difference between him and a young player could be meaningful.

I don't think they would require both Podz and Moody. It would probably be one or the other. I'm not sure either are even necessary if they get Kuminga and full pick control
Yeah I guess I just don't see that as the difference between making a huge pivot. If you got pick control and one of Podz or Moody that's a definite no, but if you get JK its a "they blew me away" package?

I'm just asking... not like trying to corner you or anyone. Genuinely curious since its positioned as "they have to blow us away"... and it seems like what is on the table is close to the most they can offer.
