And he's joining in with helping others understand lol. I don't get how folks don't see how a swap with 3 other teams is much more valuable than with one team but shrug.
It's somewhat more valuable, but in certain situations (that the Jazz could be in) it doesn't move the needle all that much.

Say the Jazz have 6th pick, the 22nd pick (Cavs), 25th pick (Wolves) and then get to superswap with with Warriors (who with Curry and Markkanen are at 21). The superswap helps a small bit, but it's really kind of meh.

It doesn't always help the jazz that much, but it does make this kind of deal a lot more costly for whoever trades with us. Being locked into back end of the first round alternating with no pick at all for six or seven years is going to make it TOUGH to add talent.

Basically reduces a lot of the variance of the swap, that normally benefits the team trading them.

All of this is a dice roll. You do what you can to weigh the dice.

That’s part of the magic, if there’s a serious downturn, they are in danger of perpetually sending better and better picks. Super swaps basically guarantee that they’re stuck in the back of the 1st round whether they’re decent or terrible.

But yeah, even with Super swaps, 2025 might only marginally improve one of the picks, if at all. That is one year of seven.

Wish I had the skills to make a image/meme out of this typo.

But seriously, yeah the superswap makes more sense in some situations than others. I wouldn't say it makes all that much sense for the Jazz until after 2027 (though it is good for unforseen downfalls).

And sometimes you end up swapping 27 for 1 and trade back for another valuable pick and end up with jayson tatum and win a title.

Warriors have drafted in the lottery 3 of the last 7 years. This is with prime Steph, Klay, Green, and KD for a few years. Yeah when it goes from 25 to 21 whatevs. Sometime in that 7 years you are getting a lottery pick or two.

So a swap would be sufficient here, yeah?

No but I'll take 3 picks and 4 super swaps knowing that some will have much more value than something in the 20s.

Makes me wonder - what are previous examples of super swaps being traded? I would be extremely hesitant to hand those out if I were trading with the jazz.
