Doesn't the 2nd apron limit the number if years out you can trade a pick, even more than normal?
Its not frozen yet... that will start later.

I think the only team that would be desperate enough to give us what we're asking for when with the risk that Lauri leaves as a free agent next year is GSW.
Pistons can R&E him, though... so I'm gonna put on my biggest take-making hat and say that they are a dark-horse since they also seem desperate to improve and desperately need shooting.

Still a risk. If things go bad he can change his mind.
Risk for both parties is high. Lauri tears his achilles and that handshake deal changes.

If GS comes with all the picks and swaps, podz, and Moody a deal will happen. Otherwise I think we extend him. SA would likely be more interested midseason if he was extended.

Total money diff from Clint to JC is $6M. They won't have space next year so JC's deal next year is whatevs. He has some value maybe its closer to 5-6M than 14M per year and if you factor in that Walker makes $5M next year and an equivalent center would make 12-15M on the market... like I think its all kind of factored in and its a good deal for them. I think you put way too much weight on his bad year. He's negative but not by a crazy amount.

You brought up the real money aspect, just saying that JC is more real money. And you may think having JC’s salary is whatevs, additional breathing room under the tax this year is also extremely whatevs. The Hawks don’t have money issues we’re solving in this hypothetical and it’s always better to have a cleaner cap.

I don’t really care to have a long discussion about just how negative he is. All I’ll say is that he’s going into his age 32 season, was one of the worst players in the league last year, and is an undesirable archetype. Of course he’s negative, and if we throw him into a deal when it’s not necessary we should count that as a big plus for us.

That's why I used past tense. They also didn't get in on Barnes like they could have. Who knows what they are really doing there.
Bumping around in the dark. I could see them going all-in (full stupid) if they think they can be the team that gets Lauri and can properly extend him.

I think Kuminga might be the deal breaker at the moment.

Tony Jones was on bay area radio and was asked about Kuminga and kinda said "if you are a warriors fan that wants to keep Kuminga and is worried he is in the deal... you can sleep easy". Mentioned his upcoming extensions and such.

Who knows and maybe JK could be routed to a third team for value we would want, but I think GS is shorting us a bit on either a pick or a player... and I don't think its Kuminga. Or we just really aren't all that interested in their best possible offer.

Fair enough. The money stuff gets a little more even as well when you figure Clint is taking up one roster spot for one year and Walke/JC would take up two spots for two years.

I think part of the complication, especially if the Warriors want to hold onto Kuminga, is what to do with Wiggins. I'm sure the Warriors are desperate to move him and especially so if they're now paying both JK and Lauri big money. The other complication is unlocking their 29 and 31 picks. It shouldn't be that hard to get it back, but just with everything on the table the easiest path to get that pick would be for UTA to have the sweetner to send to WAS. So we're doing them this huge favor by taking on Wiggins and doing them a favor by unlocking their picks....Ainge is going to want payment for all of that.

When you think about the cost of taking on Wiggins, it's got to be like a 2FRP worth dump. The Warriors might be running out of stuff at that point if you're counting the value of Lauri, the value of the dump, and the value of the sweetner for WAS.

If I was running GSW there is no way that I would be giving up what they have been reported to have offered us. I think they have actually already done a nice job of putting together a roster that is capable of making the playoffs. I think that's all you can ask if you are Steph, and I just wouldn't do anything to completely mortgage my future if I'm GSW.

I just have a hard time a deal gets done because I don't think it makes sense for either team.

I'm still not clear why we need to do anything regarding Washington. Golden State can just send the "protected" portion of the 2030 pick (which I will call "inverse-protected"; whereby they get the pick if it falls 1-20 and who cares if it conveys 21-30). I would rather keep the sweetener and not have to deal with the headache than pick 21-30 in 2030.

If the 30 pick as any possibility of conveying to WAS, GSW cannot trade 29 and 31 outright. Those must be swaps.

Steph has every right to ask for everything.

Super swaps solve this... at least in 2029
