Does Mitchell get his own signature shoe?

It's been kind of a down year for Adidas. With losing the NBA contract to the FBI investigation and the fact that they were only able to ink one lottery pick in this years packed draft.

Fortunately, they struck gold with Donovan Mitchell.

Adidas's top contracts are for Harden, Rose, and Dame. The popularity of Rose is likely on the downswing. You probably need to add another property in the stable to sell shoes. Why not Mitchell? Here some of the better players Adidas has inked the past 5 years:

Mitchell
Brandon Ingram
Jaylen Brown
Dragan Bender
Kris Dunn
Jamal Murray
Thon Maker
Taurean Prince
Kristaps Porzingis
Andrew Wiggins
Joel Embiid
Marcus Smart

Obviously, Embiid is hot, but big men specialty shoes aren't as common as wings and guards. Most dudes figure they can better emulate a guard when playing than a seven footer. Additionally, Mitchell has been rocking those yellow Dames almost to the point that they are iconic even at this point in his young career.

So, at what point do I get my Mitchell signature shoe?

Based on that list that excludes the stars (Harden, Lillard) Mitchell is the best guard. Something with the classic colors like the Utah Jazz 1989 Converse Pinnacle Series shoe.

He will most likely just get his own exclusive colorway of an already existing model. I just don't see a player from the smallest market getting his own shoe deal.

Marcus Smart has a shoe deal?!?!

HAHAHAHA

Russell Westbrook hasnt gotten a signature on-court model yet for Jordan Brand (he does have a short line of off-court models)

Jimmy Butler doesnt have an on-court model.

Paul George just go his last year, and I would ascertain that was probably partly due to the fact everyone knows he wants to go to LA.

Giannis just this past month or two signed his first signature line deal w/ Nike.

DeRozan doesnt have a signature line.

James Harden just got his first line last year.

So yeah, the major shoe companies don't just jump into making a signature line.

Could Donovan be next in line soon? Possibly. Like you said Adidas has 3 signature athletes atm, so I don't know if they would really want to put out a higher risk model w/ a guy who plays in Utah. The Rose deal is giant too and probably prevents the company from adding a guy like Mitchell to a signature deal. Most likely they will just attach Mitchell to one of the models in their line (Crazy Explosive/Crazy Light) and give him exclusive colorways and see how those perform before offering him a signature deal.

He might have to go the way of CJ McCollum and Klay Thompson and sign with one of the Chinese companies to get his own signature line once his current cash deal w/ Adidas ends.

I have a feeling, based on his off court charisma and demeanor, Donovan is going to overperform on the endorsement and promotions front. His PR game is pretty damn strong.

Possibly, but there are other guys in line before him currently. For instance, John Wall is still a shoe free agent and is looking for a signature deal. Even last year's Adidas signings of Ingram and Brown might get priority over Mitchell simply because of market appeal. The company also has put most of their effort into Andrew Wiggins, branding him the leader of their flagship model.

I wouldn't be shocked if he eventually gets one, but I will be shocked if it happens within the next 4 years. I think companies are much more cautious when it comes to starting new lines nowadays.
