I am not arguing against your point but using Monroe to reinforce your argument is silly. Monroe probably told every local reporter that he was excited to play with player X. That is Rookie speak 101.

well the Jazz did sign Booz and Okur as FAs, did'nt they? Although they are'nt quite Lebron and Wade.
Then they gave that contract to AK and ensured that we would'nt be contenders for the next 6 years.
You substitute AK with a player or two who genuinely deserve 17 mil/yr between them and we have a team that's almost a contender, almost on par with the Lakers.
Lesson to be learnt is, all it takes is one big bad contract to screw up a small market team. In the 90s it was Osterfart, in the 00s it is AK.
