Donald Fires FBI Director who's investigating Russian Election Hacking

Brace yourselves for some random *** nonsensical twitter storm from the President. It probably won't even have to do with this, but as we've seen, he needs to vent when he isn't getting his way.

Yeah he will deflect as hard as he can. He will go after Hillary again, Obama again, maybe even the whole car incident in charlottesville again. Anything he can do to try to shift people's attention. It is sad really.

The following is opinion blatantly stolen from redditor /u/theheckwithitall

As a trial attorney, I want to point out that Mueller would have very carefully selected the wording of the statements Flynn is agreeing were false (four of them). Indeed it is interesting that Kushner was called in to testify to Mueller specifically on very limited issues - almost certainly on those very same statements ... Mueller would want to nail Kushner's testimony down BEFORE Kushner became aware that Flynn was pleading guilty that those statements were false.

That doesn't mean Kushner lied to Mueller last week. It does mean however that Mueller was interested in forcing Kushner to testify on those subjects (those statements) before Mueller revealed Flynn's guilty plea on those very statements. Kushner is very much in the cross hairs.

Edit: We've now learned Flynn will testify that a very senior advisor directed him to discuss sanctions with the Russian ambassador. The fact Mueller called in Kushner, I believe before Flynn's lawyer sent a letter withdrawing from the joint defense agreement with Trump and Kushner's lawyers, because he wanted to give Kushner a chance to lie under oath. It is clear Mueller would have directly asked Kushner if Kushner ever directed Flynn or anyone else to speak to the Russian ambassador about Russian sanctions - and it is almost certain Kushner would have denied doing so (or took the 5th because it would be a felony).

This means Muller and Flynn reached agreement a while ago - before Flynn's lawyer sent the letter (Mueller would not have wanted Kushner alerted that Flynn was cooperating). That would only have been ethical by Flynn's lawyer if Flynn's lawyer went incommunicado with Kushner's and Trump's lawyers - probably telling them he was away on vacation or some other way to make himself unavailable).

Anyway - the big news is obviously Flynn testifying against Trump. But it has now become probable a grand jury will soon indict Kushner for perjury (although Mueller may wait until he is ready to bring all possible charges against Kushner - perjury may just be one ... conspiracy to violate the Logan Act would be another ... and that conspiracy almost certainly would include Flynn-Kushner-Trump ... which means we could very well see a public jury trial during 2018 that names Trump as an unindicted co-conspirator and which would see Mueller try to convince a jury that Kushner was guilty of a conspiracy that includes Donald Trump).

I found it pretty interesting.

So Trump told Flynn to go talk to the Ruskies post election about sanctions and how things will be run in the future?

I don't see the big deal. Somebody splain this to me. And not Dutchie.

Mueller has expectations, or he would not have agreed to this plea deal. If Flynn does not fulfill those expectations, and Mueller believes he is stonewalling, he can find himself facing more charges, as well as a harsher punishment for the charge he's pled guilty to. Not sure trust factors in, if Flynn is now backed into a corner.

And I need to pay closer attention in this thread. Did not realize you had already posted the ABC report....

ABC came out and said they reported incorrectly, and that this happened post-election.

Things do seem to be speeding up. We've got a strong system where the rule of law is concerned. The danger to the republic would be if we did not allow the rule of law to prevail. Maybe we'll yet come out of this with our national honor restored. We're better then this, and here's hoping we prove that to ourselves, when all is said and done.

The White House was caught off guard. Got to wonder how grounded in reality the President's council, Ty Cobb, is with the rosy picture he's apparently been providing Trump:

Robert Mueller has a plan. How the Special Council's deal with Michael Flynn nuetrilizes Trump's pardon power. This is an insightful read:

http://www.slate.com/articles/news_...l_flynn_neutralizes_trump_s_pardon_power.html

"I write here to make three points. 1) The plea deal continues Robert Mueller’s strategy of neutralizing Trump’s pardon power. 2) The obstruction of justice charge against Trump just got a whole lot stronger. 3) Everyone is rightly focusing on Trump, but Vice President Mike Pence and White House Counsel Don McGahn are in bigger trouble than ever."

So much for draining the swamp. This tax bill is one of the most disgusting, outrageous, openly despicable things i've ever seen the government too. Merry Christmas to everyone on K-Street! You did it! Congrats Donald! You drained the swamp Daniel Plainsview-style, alright. Passing a reverse Robin Hood bill that no one wants, that is actively harmful to our economic future--which even the rich have admitted--a bill the majority of their base will not benefit from and would or do not support, because they do not care and they know there will be no political repercussions. Hard to care about Russia when the most disgusting robbery of the the nation to give to the rich just happened in the middle of the night. All the news networks and all the liberals talk about is Russia and Flynn while the republicans spend trillions of dollars on Christmas gifts to lobbyists and the super rich that will do nothing for everyone else. **** they even just raised a lot of peoples taxes. Middle income people! College students taxes! poor people! Chinese loans straight into some trust fund brat's bank account. None of this is of course paid for and will increase the deficit. If it doesn't hurt the economy tomorrow, it will years down the line (the republicans probably banking on this knowing that it will come back to bite us after us simpletons forget--and they will just blame it on food stamps or public school lunch programs). They literally let CHIP expire a month ago... Every person who votes republican says they do it out of principal. They the party of "common sense, fiscal responsibility, deficit reduction." lol. After tonight you'd expect the republican party would never be able to claim that they care about deficits or that they are trying to drain the swamp or that they believe there's "no such thing as a free lunch." They just bought a bunch of millionaires lunch, and footed your kids with the bill. Oh, and they horded the rest of the food for the billionaire's great great great grandson. Free lunch is only for private school kids, I guess. The worst is knowing they will never be held accountable and they know it too. Could use the tea party about now.

John Mccain is such a phony. Gives the guy who mocked his service his only victory so that his kids could pay a slightly lower estate tax. The democratic party is so incompetent. And all their base cares about is their version of the red scare. The republican base (the non rich middle class white people make up most of it) only pay attention to the politics of cultural resentment--as long as they get to call college kids snow flakes pr whine about NFL players kneeling they don't seem to realize that the party and their media is only a wealth grab. It doesn't matter. At least, not yet. Eventually the effects will be felt. It's been a very long time since the majority of americans had any sort of a raise. So many people are becoming disenfranchised and disillusioned with our economy and our institutions. They aren't working for most people. That's what swept Donald into the white house--he of course pretended that he cared about this, that he would "drain the swamp" and do something about this. Of course, as was obvious, he has only sought to make it worse.

I never thought I'd feel like this but man on days like this, it's so infuriating watching what these people get away with. It really is the fact that they know the public s is so defeated, disoriented, that we're so broken, they will never be held accountable. I hope I live long enough to see them put in a ****ing guillotine.

One of the options to repeal Obamacare available to the Senate this summer was called “skinny repeal.” The result would have been 13 million more Americans uninsured by virtue of eliminating the individual mandate. They couldn’t do it. Tonight’s bill contained an amendment to do just that, in addition to all the rest of rest of it. What a horror show. Not a single one of the 51 that voted for this gets to pretend to be fiscally responsible or conservative ever again.

2018 midterms are coming...

Mueller is coming...

Trump may indirectly help drain the swamp after all. Of course he's the biggest swamp rat of them all, so in order to drain it he'll need to go first.

100% serious, I'm throwing a party once he gets ousted before his term is up. All of you are invited.

Preach, comrade. Y’all need a third party. Dems are ****ing toothless and y’all don’t stand a chance with them at the well.

Trump just admitted again today that he is guilty of obstruction of justice. If he knew that Flynn had lied to the FBI then why did he ask Comey to lay off of him? And since Comey didn't lay off Flynn, firing Comey is clearly obstruction of justice:

Good article on Times about the division of America and relevant topics to it like geography, social media and Trump.

Thought some people like @Red would appreciate it like I did.

Thank you, @Stoked. That was not the easiest of reads, but the best reads at this point are anything that can help clarify where we are in this time and place, early 21st century America. I enjoy reading Tom Engelhardt for fresh ways of looking at our present moment.

Perspective: At the time donnie was not President.

Does it seem like a bigger deal when it's said "A private citizen tasked his employee to conduct diplomatic affairs instead of the POTUSA"?

Further context; it is and always has been the responsibility of the current administration to handle diplomatic affairs. There is no historical context for a president elect's officials to take over before the next president is sworn in. In record time, James Clapper shot down the rumor that stated the Obama administration told them to, or even suggested that donnie's administration reach out.

Now let's go back to Comey for a moment. The day after he pushed Flynn to resign, was the day donnie met with Comey, and used the exact words "I hope you can let this go".

donnie tweeted Sunday morning, “I never asked Comey to stop investigating Flynn.”

That seems to fit obstruction pretty well. One's talking under oath, and had notes admitted as evidence. The other releases his statements on the internet.

Ridiculous. Every president elect does this. It would almost be impossible not to. But let's all go crazy about it in this instance because we hate Donald.

He knew he was going to be the President. Current admin was putting in sanctions. New admin wanted to make sure the country that was getting the sanctions didn't have anything to worry about. Where, logically, is the problem? I understand the legal implications, but logically, I don't get why this is a big problem.

Realistically, this is not a big deal at all.
