I really hate the power that debating has in our political system tbh. One of the best leaders I ever met was a terrible public speaker and avoided it whenever he could. He obviously did well enough but he would have sucked in a debate format. Look at the **** that come out of the debates, like "binders full of women" that the media and the opposition latches onto. I get we need a forum for the public to get to know the candidates better but the debate is a poor representation of who those people are and what they are capable of. Mostly it measure how effective they are at 1) exciting the voting base and 2) generating sound bites. It isn't a good measure of them as a leader.Here’s one article. There are a bunch on it.
