What's new

Donald Trump

And yet he's in the lead.. which I think speaks more about the society as a whole than anything else... lol

He has about 33% support from registered Republicans. I bet that translates to about 15% support or less from the general population.

His negatives are extremely high. People outside his core support are not very likely to be won over by him.

I just don't understand why evangelicals are voting for him. Makes no sense to me.

I like Kasich a lot, but he's not far enough right to win the primary.

Sigh.

What I find amazing is that a ton of the anti BLM/Bundy supporters support Trump but don't care that Trump supports eminent domain. I would think those two would be incompatible.

Another reason to have our current process. It's a rat race to get as far left and right as you can right now.

Somehow you find the things about him endearing that I find abhorrent.

So yeah, he's confident...in his stupidity.

He says what he thinks...which is inaccurate, offensive and misinformed.

He's got that tough guy thing going, except that he isn't a tough guy, not in anyway that I'm buying into. He's a self-important little twerp. I look at him and I see pathetic. I see someone who is delusional about who they are and how the rest of the world sees them.

I find his personality to be so incredibly irritating that I can't hardly watch the guy without feeling uneasy, damn near nauseous.

Good on him that he only sleeps four hours a night. I don't have any idea why that would be impressive. I have a feeling it contributes to the delusional way he sees the world.

I don't have a horse in this race, I'm just sorta watching this from afar.

The south Carolina town hall interviews with Anderson popped up on CNN last week (no NBA games on) so that was when I was able to watch all 6 GOP candidates all at the same time for the first time. And from that I've gotta say Trump just has that 'winning' attitude about him. The way he deflected all that Pope stuff like it was nothing as well as all the U-turns he had done over the years, all that stuff should have hurt him, but I watched as they all bounced off of him like he's teflon.

It was clear to me Cruz, Rubio and Bush all tried to impress while Trump was just being himself and I think that was the difference. He didn't need to put on an act, he is who he is, take it or leave it. If I were an undecided impartial voter, I think I would have been very impressed by his candid style. Add to that the fact that he doesn't smoke or drink, and that he only sleeps 3-4 hours a day, I mean that's just the kind of stuff that would impress and potentially sway any undecided voter.

Different strokes, I guess. I didn't see that particular town hall but I've seen a lot of the interviews and debates. And what you see as candidness and a winning attitude I see as arrogance, megalomania even, intolerance, rudeness, etc. I see someone who is saying things he may or may not even believe because it makes people react in ways that he likes. I see someone who takes personal shots at others, including racist and sexist ones, and then tries to run and hide from his remarks by saying, "Well, that's just what I've heard." I see someone who can't handle it when people challenge him on anything. I see someone who was (very likely) as unscrupulous in his business dealings as he accuses the politicians of being. I see someone who hasn't even bothered to explicitly state any specific policies about how he would reach his stated goals. I see someone who has no qualms about stating totally unrealistic goals, goals that would tear the country apart, because a key minority of the country wants to hear them. I see someone who I wouldn't want in a million years to be president of this great country.

I agree with nearly all of this. I don't know that I'd call him stupid, though. I think it's calculated, which in my opinion is even worse.

For the record I wouldn't vote for Trump if my life was depended on it. Make no mistake, a Donald Trump President is catastrophic not only to the United States but also to the World as a whole, and I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. He epitomises money buying more power and more money, and everything you've said above is true also.

I was just making an observation as to how I see the race going down and it was clear to me the momentum was with Trump and sure enough he won and I believe he will keep winning unless supporters for Jeb rally around either Rubio or Cruz. But you see, I don't see either Rubio or Cruz becoming President either... Rubio is really young, and that thing about him repeating that stuff at the debate will stick in voters' mind forever, and Cruz to me is too 'wooden' for the lack of a better word and just doesn't have mass appeal. Trump unfortunately does have that charisma and mass appeal... it will be interesting for sure to see how it goes for here.

Completely false. Here's the work he's already done on the Repub base that were outside his "core" originally. He trends up the more he's around, just like he will with the whole voting contingency when that time comes, albeit on a less extreme scale:

I'm wrong, I admit it. Republicans are even stupider than I thought.

The thing about Trump that confounds so many of us is that he can make a completely idiotic statement, but it seems to have no negative (and often a somewhat positive) impact upon his popularity. Very often he softens his crazy statements and none of his supporters seem bothered by the inconsistency. Lately he's been giving interviews explaining how differently he will behave as president than he's behaving as a candidate. Anybody who votes for this guy based upon issues and does not recognize that he's likely to change his positions at a later date with no explanation or apology is simply not paying attention to the track record he is establishing. His money and fame seem to be hypnotizing an ever increasing portion of the voting block. I've never seen anything like it in my lifetime.

A guy like Donald Trump has been a long time coming for the republican party. Take a minute and go to Ted Cruz' or Marco Rubio's website and read their platform. It's the same seven or eight ****ing issues that "conservatives" have been running on for over the last 35 years: end abortion, establish a flat tax, restore religious freedoms(whatever that means) reduce the role of the federal government in our lives, bring back jobs by ending regulation blah, blah, blah.

Has any of that stuff even remotely happened in the last 40 years under republican leadership? Abortion is still legal, we're nowhere near a flat tax, republicans have clearly done nothing but try to increase federal powers since Nixon resigned, other than about 4 1/2 years during Reagan (due to massive deficit spending) you've seen a net loss in jobs under republican president s - you can go on and on. It's readily obvious that these issues aren't there for anyone to solve, they're there to keep their base angry and showing up at the polls - but I think that ride has finally come to an end.

Here's the thing - Trump is going to do something if he gets elected. I think that's one thing everyone can agree on. And the standards in the republican party have been systematically lowered to the point where if a charismatic person comes around who can make people believe that, he'll move right to the top of the pile.

But here's the scary thought - when Trump is done blowing up the republican party, who is the guy who is going to come along and "out Trump" Trump?

I love it.

Trump and his supporters are the 20 year creation of Fox News and Rush Limbaugh. The dumber and less educated the more fervent their support of Trump becomes.

The Reich Wing has been pushing for a pissed off leader to lead the terribly educated and pissed populace. Well, now they finally got it!

Repubs, don't complain! Just bend over and take this! You built this so enjoy it! It'll all be over quickly (but not too quickly)

Enjoy the next 8 years of Madame President. Oh, and 10+ years of a liberal Supreme Court! You got 20 years of regressive rulings. It's about time we get 20 years of Progressive rulings!

The nomination is Trump's, writing is on the wall. Dem could still go either way IMO. Bernie is gaining tons of ground.
