Donovan Mitchell All Star Weekend Thread

I like how this post triggers people. Like, they take this as a personal insult.
Everyone I was watching the dunk contest with were saying the same thing. Don't get me wrong, his dunks can look great and all, but out side of ****ing it back and throwing it down hard, he's limited. His VC dunk was an anti climatic winner.
It's because you bring up pointless bull#%%' why can't you just let people enjoy a moment with out critiquing every little aspect. Donovan looks like he could be a special player. No need to analyze every little thing

Is Cy a Donovan hater ... as he said, he can't jump off one foot ... lol
He can't jump off 1 foot to dunk, he has said so himself.

Donovan is a great in-game dunker, he just isn't a great dunk contest dunker. His personality really carried him and the fact that DSJ completely screwed himself on the first dunk.

BTW, you can never call anyone a hater when you are the person who dedicates multiple threads to hate on one player. Until someone matches that, you cant call them a hater.

Donovan Mitchell is awesome. We are so lucky to have him. My dunk takes:

#1 - incredibly underrated. He did it first try no problem. It was harder than Nance's dunk from his Dad.

#2 - he became the showman. Good, smart dunk getting people involved.

#3 - very good dunk that really shined in the replay. Weakest of the 4, but still good.

#4 - the Vince Carter dunk was the best dunk I have ever seen live. I was blown away. Donovan's wasn't as clean as Vince's, but Vince did that dunk 1st and has a height advantage on him.

Donovan might be the best thing to happen to our franchise since Stockton and Malone under Sloan. Never in a million years did I think one player would make such an impact.

Edit. My bad, I read your post as saying Mitchell's Carter's dunk was the best you've ever seen live. I was like... haha

You guys remember when I said Mitchell would be the next Dwade/Rose-esque player in the NBA during summer ball? - No.

Do you remember Mitchell's first 10 games or so in the NBA he started with the worst fg% in NBA history and had the worst, by far, defensive rating among rookies and I said he looked slow against NBA starters and I said his one dunk wasn't that athletic (it wasn't.) - You kind of do, but selective memory and Dalamon-esque reading skills.

Do you remember when Dalamon asked if he could cut me in half, I'd still be taller than him?

Mitchell had a few dunks that were cool tonight, but he's right up there with Evans of having one of the least athletic NBA dunk contest victories.

Quantify how mad this makes you, Dalamon?

You don't have to remind us of how dumb you are, Archie. We already know it.

I never said I wasn't a Rubio hater ... I admit it. I am and trying to get over it.

I thought the 3rd dunk was the best. It was the one that highlighted his greatest dunking strength, how freaking long his arms are and how far he can tomahawk a dunk.

The last was probably the most impressive, but it was just a worse version of the VC dunk and like I said earlier, I hate recreation dunks.

The first one was the most mediocre to me, but it was exciting pre-dunk just because I was curious w/ the prop.

The 2nd was OK. Like the 3rd one, it was a good example of a signature style of Donovan's, the leg action when he reaches max elevation.

But yeah, his greatest strength was the showmanship.

like it or not. mitchell won.

one of the many trophies he will win. much more to come!!
Everyone likes that Mitchell won.

I just don't like that the overall contest was weak.

Personally I'd rather just see a good contest with creative and new dunks than have "my guy" win basically by default.

Yeah for all the "Jazz fans" talking about how bad Spida sucked... our guy won the dunk contest. Our guy won the dunk contest!

I generally don't buy team merchandise other than t-shirts I can get for ~$20. And I've never spent more than $50 on shoes (I shop at Big 5).

I'll probably make an exception for DM sneakers.

I definitely won't buy yellow shoes regardless of the branding. Maybe for my kids

Anyone who even begins to try and take away anything from Donovan on social media, here, or elsewhere is a low life. Not a guy better than Donovan and I’m glad he got what he wanted so bad, and put himself all over every form of media tonight. He did an incredible job tonight.

...and as for whoever said he’s had the biggest impact on the franchise since Stockton and Malone, it’s not even a question at this point. We are 58 games into this kids career and he has stolen every Jazz fans heart and is with no question the face of the franchise and the biggest bucket of marketing gold this franchise has ever had. He’s got a long road ahead, but his impact has already created more hope, hype, and love from the fan base than anyone since Karl and John.....and boy do I hope he and Rudy can one day cap it off with a title.
