Donovan Mitchell With and Without Gobert

I really wish Quin wouldn't play Favors and Gobert at the same time. They just can't co-mingle unfortunately and it hurts the team so much.

Favs and Rudy is not ideal... the real issue has and always will be Ricky. All the on/off numbers and lineup data support it. He is a terrible fit in the offense. Everything points in one players direction (at least on offense).

I would try and move him at the deadline... but surely in the offseason he needs to leave. Trading him would hurt the stealth tank, but it would be nice to see what happens with Rudy, DM and Favs with some space.

Follow Andy Bailey and NBA Math on twitter... The Ricky numbers are bleak. I don't think he is this bad, but the fit with the offense and roster is really bad.

** TL/DR **
DM averaged 16pts/3reb/3asst/3to on 37%/28% shooting in the 22 games Gobert played in
DM averaged 22pts/4reb/3.5asst/2.5to on 48%/33% shooting in the 24 games Gobert did not play in
The question is why?

According to Basketball Reference, Donovan is shooting 33,9% from three for the season. Something has to be wrong with your numbers as you have him on 28% with and 33% without Gobert.

not sure, got the tables from BBR as well. just did AVERAGE(rows)

The only issue with Donovan is that he/s been taking more long 3's that seem unnecessary. His shooting percentage this month is not that much further below last month, so anything 2 is probably about the same or even slightly better with Rudy. The rest of his numbers seem in line just fine to me, especially for a rook.

You can`t do an average on the percentages. The currect numbers are these:

With Gobert: 2pfg 137/351 - 39% 3pfg 44/139 - 31,7%
Without Gobert: 2ppfg 190/389 - 48,8% 3pfg 58/162 - 35,8%

With last night`s game, Donovan`s 3pfg% with Gobert on the floor rose with over a full percentage point. Let us wait until the end of the season before we draw any sort of conclusion here.

Mitchell and Gobert have to play together as much as possible. That is the only point of this season now. We need these two. They are the only players that really matter and we need them to figure each other out. So give them a lot of space.

like i said, not a statistician. thanks for that!

After tonight, Donovans 3pt% with Gobert on the floor is on par with when Gobert is off the floor. I think we can safely let this worry rest.
And that even counting those first 5 or so games of the season when Donovan was atrocious shooting the ball- before he got comfortable. Yeah, we should put this to bed.
