What's new

Don't Republicans have better things to worry about?

I agree that overall, the CFL is the way to go.

What about LED's? Aren't they the most energy efficient?

Yes they are. I believe the energy efficiency over a CFL is about the same as a CFL over incandescent. However, the cost of the LED is far greater at this point in time. At my supply store, you can buy an LED upgrade kit for a standard 6" recessed light for something like 5-6 times the cost of a single CFL. When LED becomes more reasonably priced, that would be the way to go. I do know that Sam's Club sells all of the above, and that's where I go to buy CFLs (when I buy them). You can get LED bulbs without buying the upgrade kit. I think an 8 pack of CFLs is something like $15.00 while a three pack (I think) of LED's is about $26.00. That's why I think CFL is the way to go right now.

Screw efficiency. The quality of light coming from a CFL sucks ***. I would rather have a quality **** than a efficient ****.

I bet your dad said the same thing about regular leaded gasoline, rotary phones, and LP's. Sho' nuff.

I guess us peasanties should be jumping for joy that some busybody millionaire libtards are allowing us to buy quality lightbulbs for $5 a piece more.

seriously, the idea that at some point in the future only CFL (or equivalent) bulbs will be the only ones available is scary for me. We live in a 120 year old Victorian house and many of our light fixtures reflect that era, so we use "flame tip" bulbs. CFL's would look disastrous.

Not only that, but when we moved in 28 years ago, one of the first things we did was to have the entire electrical system revamped and upgraded, since much of it was still the old "knob and tube" wiring. In order to give us the advantages of three-way switches without major reconstruction to run new wiring, our electrician installed a Leviton "remote" switch system for many of our ceiling fixtures. I've tried using CFL bulbs in some of those fixtures (where looks wouldn't matter) and whatever is in the CFL bulb itself throws the whole system out of whack.

We redid our kitchen two years ago and included halogen under-cabinet lights in a couple spots. I noticed that whenever I have those lights turned on, the switch for our family room light (which is on the Leviton system) does not work. At any rate, I realize this isn't really a CFL issue, but it is an issue where one modern technology interferes with another.

I guess at some point we'll have to bite the bullet and redo everything, again...

/sigh

Just go to the root of the issue and the Dems should force everyone to get solar panels.

LOL

if some of this stuff could be done discreetly it might not be too bad, but it's pretty sad when you see these glorious old architectural gems with a/c units in every window and satellite dishes on every balcony

Because Reps only say they are pro market they are really pro lobbyist. And it looks like CFL aren't pushing the right buttons $$$$. Plus they are pro killing our planet.

Have you participated in the "How old are you?" thread yet. Dalamon needs some company.
