What's new

Doufos is gone

Honestly I think it has more to do with resigning Fes than Mathews. Per Ross Siler the initial cap hit is $5.765, but like Millsap, w/the bonus Wes is due a large amt up front ($9.14 mil). Ultimately, it will come down to how good of a player the Jazz view Wes being, and unless it's more than a solid-role player I don't think we'll match.

Also, just heard KOC on 1320kfan. He mentioned the arrival of Jefferson gives Utah a solid 3-man rotation upfront. Don't want to read to much into it, but I suppose it's possible Fes isn't in their longterm plans and we'll be seeing a bigman rotation similar to last year's (possibly w/Okur off the bench?). Still early, but I found that interesting.

Signing bonus is immaterial unless the Millers are short on their cash flow. Now or later, it's the same amount (well, actually about $1M more due to the time value of money on that extra $4M up front). Fes may not be in the long-term plans, but I think they should try to keep him. He's insurance in case Okur isn't ready and he could be a good trade chip. Send him to a team with injuries in exchange for a 2nd rounder later this season.

I gotta give credit where credit is due. Viny, although most of the time I think you're a complete hack, I also laugh more at your posts than any others. I want to give you the benefit of the doubt, being that you actually act like an idiot intentionally. Jury is still out. Bro.

Um. Thanks?

So I guess the whole can't include players with TPE is wrong.

I'm pretty sure that rule implies that, if the TPE is insufficient to cover the player you traded for, you are not allowed to add a player to make it work. In our case the TPE is big enough to absorb the whole salary of big Al. We could as well mention the additional draft picks and koufos as a seperate deal if we wished so.

Jazzmanian Devil already explained correctly, but I'll add an example.

If the Boozer TPE was only $12M, they would not be able to add Koufos' $1.3M to make the trade work.
Since the Boozer TPE was $13M, it was sufficient to absorb Jefferson's salary. Adding Koufos is fine because his addition isn't imperative to be able to accept the $13M.

From Minnesota's perspective, the TPE is irrelevant. They traded away $13M and received $1.3M, and it is always OK to drop salary by any amount (it just has to work somehow for the the other team to take on the additional salary).

The boom bitches era is over. Tis a bittersweet day.

And the bitter part is? Look, Minnesota now wants to get rid of him: "David Kahn just said here in Las Vegas that he has already talked to Koufos' agent and will try to move Koufos on a team where he might play more than on a Wolves team" (https://www.startribune.com/sports/...=KArksi8cyaiUqPk4DyCc75DiUiacyKUnciaec8O7EyUr). Clearly KOC added him to a deal just to dump his salary. So, now instead of 1.7 mil over the tax, we are only .4 mil over.

When you are over the tax, you pay double, and to pay Koufos 2.6 mil to be 4th stringer is something I am sure Greg Miller did not want to do. I was actually encouraged by his progress in summer League, and thought at 21, he still had a chance, but let's face it, 100 Koufoses are still not worth 1 Al Jefferson. Losing him is a nuisance.

You son of a bitch.

I'm pretty sure he has to wait until Mid-December to re-trade Boom Bitches.

The Jazz need to resign Fes if they can get him for 1-1.5 mill a year.

SLT: "O’Connor suggested that trading Koufos increases the likelihood the Jazz will bring back Kyrylo Fesenko as a restricted free agent." Looks like Jazz like Fess more. Otherwise they could have just rescinded Fess' QO and kept Koufos. Anything above a mil a year for Fess though would be overpaying. He is a 3d stringer, and should be paid as such.

Re: the TPE rules.

I think the Jazz are allowed to include additional players, but they can't take back more $$ than the value of their TPE. That is, even though they're shipping out the equivalent of roughly $14.5MM in salary ($13TPE + ~$1.5 in Koufos) they can only receive, at most, contracts totally the value of the TPE in return.
