Lololololol. Very well done
It sucks that Rudy has been the most dominant defensive force in the league for 2 years now at least and will quite possibly not even get one DPOY award. There's more and more buzz about it from national media, so I think it's possible that he can still win. It's all about the narratives with this kind of award, and Rudy actually has a pretty good one if he can get a little more sympathetic press coverage.
This is like the MVP award. It's not like there aren't multiple very good candidates. Green and Kwahi have been great choices the past 3 years. Obviously Kwahi is out of the picture and IMO, Green just isn't as good this year as in previous seasons. Gobert has a shot, especially if the Jazz keep winning. The record with/without Rudy is pretty impressive. Lost in that is SOS, put that's only a part. And it's not just defense. The Jazz missed Rudy's moving screens on offense. I'll never complain about officiating because Gobert would foul out in the first half of every game if the refs were to call offensive fouls. It sucks that Rudy has been the most dominant defensive force in the league for 2 years now at least and will quite possibly not even get one DPOY award. Embiid played only 31 games last season, much less than half a season. Plus he was a red shirt rook and had an unfair advantage over the poor draft class of 2016.I dislike the argument that a player missed too many games to win an award so much. Last year Joel Embiid should have been ROTY. He was the best rookie and wasn't even close. He ends up losing the award simply because "he didn't play enough games". But what would have changed had he played those games?? Was he suddenly going to become so terrible at basketball that all of a sudden the race was going to become close statistically? Extremely unlikely. We are seeing a similar thing happen with Rudy this year. He's been dominant defensively for what, 3 years now? In the games he's played this season he's been the best defensive player in the NBA. So why are people using the 26 games he missed as a reason that might prevent him from winning DPOY? If he would have played in those games he would have been just as damn dominant as always. I just don't understand that argument at all. I mean, if you have a tight race between 2 players and one misses a bunch of games then I understand the case of giving it to the guy who played more games. But when it's not close don't penalize the best player for getting injured. That makes no sense.
Rudy will play a max 56 games and for a small market team - Kawhi won it a few years ago and played 64 games. That's by far the least # of games played for a DPOY in the last 25 years.
Also Rudy's blocks and rebounds per are down slightly this year (yes, I know that's not what necessarily makes a good defender; but that's what people look at who don't watch The Jazz every night).
I think it's a stretch any way you look at it. My expectation is they give AD DPOY as a consolation when Harden wins MVP. Either him or Drummond.
Didn't Morning win DPOY playing only 46 games?

I'm not saying that red shirt rookies should be excluded. Though like you mentioned it should be considered when voting. Embiid could have won the ROTY award. However, he didn't even play half a season. It would be stupid to give him the award with only 31 games under his belt. If Gobert finishes with 55-56 games this season that's about 75%. Which to me is acceptable for the award. I'm just a bitter Jazz fan and think Donovan should win ROTY.I don't believe being a redshirt rookie should disqualify a player from ROTY consideration. As long as the player is playing their first NBA games that season they should be in the running for the award. I think that their time spent at practice, in the film room, in rehab, and so forth should be taken under consideration by voters. But it shouldn't eliminate them. Just my opinion. What would be done about international rookies if injury redshirts were no longer allowed to be in the running for ROTY? Are international rookies not allowed either to win ROTY either? Most of them have pro experience which is the same "unfair advantage".
