Exum finished the last month of the NBA season at 29 minutes/gm

Jazz identity took on Exum's and Gobert 's strength ,playing defense. The Jazz look to be a top defense for along while with these two leading the way.

I can see Exum playing 31/32 minutes/gm this year.It definitely cuts into Trey Burke minutes .

Burke doesnt fit in on defense and after two years to show he can shoot ,has finished last as aPG in shooting %'s.

Having Burks,Hood healthy and Exum a year wiser and physically more mature, and maybe possibly drafting (Kaminsky) kinda takes away shots from Burke .

How much are the Jazz counting on him and what is his future ,will he accept it

Agree that he doesn't fit. However, there's some merit to the idea of keeping him to try and increase his trade value. I honestly believe he's close to his ceiling in the NBA, but if he was to go on a hot shooting streak, he might be a decent trade chip by the deadline. Tough call between selling low on him now to improve the team, and keeping him in hopes of increasing his trade value.

interesting but with a new coach in Hoiberg and McDermott healthy ,I dont think they'd take Burke.....Utah would get the better deal

Seems like an improving young PG who knows the system and is on a rookie salary fits the back-up PG position perfect. Towards the end of the season he was playing much better defense and was creating much better. His shot was inconsistent, which was the only knock on him towards the end. If he starts getting more consistent which usually happens around this time in young PG careers he will be a great fit. Let him show what he can do.

The largest improvement most PGs make is between their 2nd and 3rd year which is where Trey is at. The hate for him is out of control on this board. I didn't want to draft him and was disappointed when we traded up for him. Was disappointed with how he played but he is not as bad as some of you make him out to be.

I don't think you call it hate for Trey Burke .more disgusted with his play, you can't say he hasn't gotten opportunities

He doesn't have to be a star, just a quality back and offensive spark off the bench. Is there a better back-up PG out there, who will grow with the team?

Young undersized pgs struggle to shoot well to start their careers. Sometimes they never fix that. More often if a player works hard that number goes way up their third year. No reason to trade a pg at his lowest value. Lets see what he is this year, if he still is as bad as he was to start last season then move on. If he is improved then either keep him as a good cheap back-up pg or trade him with a much higher value.

It isn't his poor shooting that bothers me so much, it's him taking 14 shots a game while shooting poorly that pisses me off. That and the fact he would never pass on the fast break. Yeah, I hate him.

Another reason to consider trading Trey Burke (which gets overlooked) is to free up more cap space for free agency. Jazz currently have about $11 million in space for this offseason. Trading Burke and cutting Johnson and Cooley frees up another $4.5 million (without cutting Booker) to make a run at someone like DeMarre Carroll. If the Jazz believe that Burks can fill Trey's role, or they have a rookie/free agent target at PG. . . they should move Burke and put together the team that they envision for Snyder.

If they draft a pg he will be less helpful than Trey his first season. If they sign a FA pg that is better than Trey he will cost them more in cap space than Trey.

Also not a fan of making a run at DeMarre, but that is a different matter. I dont really see a FA target that we can get that is worth the money.

Trey was told to keep shooting by the coaches and the team especially when he came off the bench. I do think he took some bad shots but most of them were good shots he just didnt make them consistently. I think that will change. I think he will be more consistent. Also if we are trying to make the playoffs coaching instruction will change. I dont think Trey will shoot us out of games when there is more on the line than player development.

I'm not ready to give up on Burke, although I don't have very high hopes for him, either.

Funny the OP thinks Burke is expendable because of Exum, yet many are ready to give up on 19yo (is that right?) Exum already because he didn't come in and dominate as an 18yo rookie from the AU who has never seen men like those who also have jobs playing in the mother ****ing NBA.

So I say let's keep Exum and Burke and see where this thing goes.

There is no need to sell low on an inexpensive young player right now. He's not taking crucial minutes away from anybody. The Jazz can afford to be patient.

I don't think we should trade him yet either.

I don't think the Jazz will either. At least I don't think they'll be aggressive about it. Of someone was asking then ya, but I think they'll be fine with giving him more time, since he is young, he is cheap, and they spent two picks on him.

It frankly would be kinda dumb to just dump him just to dump him right now.

You aren't going to go out and sign someone to do his job for just as cheap and much better anyways.

He was our #2 option last year behind Hayward. #1 at times. This year, with an improved Hood, Favors, Exum, and returning Burks he will always be the third option or lower. I think he will do much better in that role.

A second Unit with a healthy Burks or Hood will make a big difference. There wasn't much else on the second unit to take shots or to pass to. Burke had some nice chemistry with Favors at the end of the year. That baseline dish on the drive to Favs was money.
