Draftday Trade Scenarios

Here are a couple draftday scenarios to look at, some are floating around in other threads:

1) Draft Smart at #5; trade Burke +23 for a pick #9 - 12; draft McDermott, Lavine, James Young. This assumes you believe in Smart as a top-8 PG and you want the defensive boost.

2) Offer #5, #23 and ?? to Philadelphia for #3. This assumes Philly isn't thrilled with the Embiid (if he's there) or Exum, and they want a PF like Randle or Vonleh. Probably they'd just take Exum if they don't like Embiid, tbh.

I could see Orlando perhaps drafting a PF. That is their position of need. Could easily go with Vonleh instead of Exum or Embiid. Draft day trade may not even be necessary.

Moving up may be problematic.
If this happens the Jazz need to look the other direction.
Jazz don't need a PG (or PG) as much as other positions so:
Trade Kanter and our 5th with Charlotte for the 9th. Grab McDermott (SF) and a center to replace Kanter... like... perhaps... Big Al!! Their leading scorer and rebounder.

Why does Kanter's name keep coming up in Jazzfanz's trade proposals? We act as if he's a hot commodity in the NBA, I seriously doubt other teams are salivating over getting Kanter on their roster, especially to get a top 3 pick. It ain't happening.

I could see Philadelphia moving down but they have a ton of picks so I don't know if they want to take on more picks.

Trolling other teams boards no one is as high about Parker as we are. For example, there are a good number of Bucks fans who want Exum over Jabari. Idiots. We need to take the treasure from them.

Because GM's troll their fan boards and act accordingly?
Milwaukee is a lock to take either Parker or Embiid.

Actually, it would be quite interesting to have Parker and Sanders on the same team.

I think the Magic are probably the only team that would trade with us... but who knows... DL you got this!

When you're livin right on and off the field, Magic happens.

I'm pretty sure that's how it goes.

Mark it down, we move up in a trade with Orlando for their pick.

My question is... Are we willing to part with next year's first? The 5th plus next year's first rounder might be worth looking into

I think trades between teams that are back-to-back in the drafting order are pretty rare. Lets say Orl likes Smart more than Exum. They're not going to take Exum and try to trade him to the Jazz for Smart to get an extra asset. They'd just take Smart at #4 and leave Exum to the Jazz at #5.

It's when there's a gap of 2 or more spots between teams that a trade normally happens. So if the Jazz like Embiid or Exum and Philly is in love with both Randle and Vonleh, the trade with Philly might happen and the Jazz give Philly another asset. The Jazz make the move to leapfrog ahead of Orl at #4.

The Jazz might have the assets to get to #3, assuming Wiggins and Parker go 1 and 2, and Philly doesn't really want Exum or Embiid.

If the Jazz see a player at the top of the draft they like, then yes, they'll offer a lot, including next year's first, or the Golden State 1st in 2017.

Problem is that those picks are not very valuable considering we dont know where they will land.

Next years first could be 10 or later..... golden state pick could be in the 20's.
A team with a top 3 pick this year would not want to give it to us for picks that might not be any good

It's fairly likely that we will be bottom feeders again next year, regardless of who we draft. A 5th and 7th(?) pick, with kanter to Philly for 3? How much is too much?

Our next year's unprotected 1st should have really high value. I don't see why it should be so impossible to move up. I can see a top 3 team not valuing Jabari the same as us. Packaging the 5th, the 23rd, and our next year's unprotected 1st would be quite the hall for a team. It's actually pretty risky for the Jazz. I'd do it, but I'm not even sure the Jazz would. As far as it looks, we could be terrible again. A few injuries could guarantee that.

Nobody gives up an unprotected first if their sure they will be terrible.
Given the Jazz's absolutely ****ty luck in the lottery, I'd give it up next year's pick (unprotected) if we could move up into the top 3. Without a doubt.

You gotta at least throw a top 3protection on it.... I'm not sure how much better we'll be.
