Draftday Trade Scenarios

You gotta at least throw a top 3protection on it.... I'm not sure how much better we'll be.
This ^

Top 3 protected, I'd look at that deal. They have enough young assets and draft picks that it's worth investing some picks in a move up. They jumped up 5 spots to land Burke last year and then traded back up for Gobert.

I'm pretty sure that DL is working the phones trying to move up into the top three. I wouldn't trade up with Orlando, just let the chips fall at that point and draft your best player at 5. I actually think that Milwaukee might be a suitable trade partner because Jabari is redundant with Gianni's in the fold. They could afford to fall back a few spots, pick up another quality asset, see who is still there between Embiid, Exum, Vonleh and Randle and pick a better fit for their team at 5 instead of reaching at 2 if they have questions about Parker or Embiid.

Our next year's unprotected 1st should have really high value. I don't see why it should be so impossible to move up. I can see a top 3 team not valuing Jabari the same as us. Packaging the 5th, the 23rd, and our next year's unprotected 1st would be quite the hall for a team. It's actually pretty risky for the Jazz. I'd do it, but I'm not even sure the Jazz would. As far as it looks, we could be terrible again. A few injuries could guarantee that.

I wouldn't do that package for any player except maybe Wiggins. All the guys are very good but not one of these players make me think this guy is going to be a top 5 player in the NBA. Some of these guys might be top 10 or 15 but they have a ways to go and may never get there. This is a deep draft and potentially a great class but all the top guys are 18 and 19 years old. I just don't see the greatest like when I looked at MJ, Lebron, Durrant, D. Robinson, Malone, Hakeem, Barkley, Bird, Magic, Shaq, Duncan, etc. Wiggins and Embiid (healthy) have the best shot but they still haven't proven they are on the level of those guys.

I remember seeing Bird in college against Arkansas and he just lit them up. I only had to see that one game and I knew he was going to be great. Same with Magic and MJ. There was no doubt in my mind. I never saw Malone until he got to the pros but his rookie season, I remember saying this guy is a man amongst boys (if he shoots his FTs).

When I watched these kids this year the only guy I was drooling over was Embiid.. then as the season went on I started liking Wiggins a lot but the "red flag" for me with Wiggins is he seems to have the Derrick Favors personality. Nice guy but really quiet. Now if you had Wiggins athleticism in Parker or Smarts mentality then you would be talking about him as the clear census #1 pick. Everyone knew Shaq was going to be number 1. Bird and Magic would have gone one and two without any discuss but who should be one and who should be two.

Who would be dumb enough to make that trade then? Why would a team give up a top three pick this season (in a fairly strong draft) for a top 3 protected pick next year? Makes no sense at all. You want to swing for the fences you gotta be willing to strike out.

Because no team is dumb enough to trade unprotected picks (besides NY and GS), especially when you know you're going to be in the lottery. Top 3 protected is a pretty good deal.

So if Cleveland, Milwaukee or Orlando would be willing to trade their pick for any of our players plus an unprotected 2015 pick? You'd turn it down, because you'd want to add a top 3 protection to the pick? Holy ****....I'm speechless.

I'd try to get it protected, but I'd probably just make the trade if it's for Wiggins or Parker. Those are the only two I move up for. I'd happily wait to see who falls to #5 if those two guys are unatainable.

Moving up may be problematic.
If this happens the Jazz need to look the other direction.
Jazz don't need a PG (or PG) as much as other positions so:
Trade Kanter and our 5th with Charlotte for the 9th. Grab McDermott (SF) and a center to replace Kanter... like... perhaps... Big Al!! Their leading scorer and rebounder.

Why not PG?

(ideas from the draft thread mashed together)

the Jazz trade #5 for Jeff Teague and #15. (though im not sure the jazz have the contracts to make this work)

Then #23 + cash and future 2nd rd picks for Terrence Ross

Select T.J. Warren 15th, Walter Tavares 35th

Teague || Burke || Garrett || Neto
Hayward || Burks || Teague/Ross/Burke
Ross || Warren || Marvin || Hayward/Burks
Kanter || Marvin || Evans || Warren/Murphy
Favors || Gobert || Kanter || Tavares

This doesn't make any sense. You trade the 5th for a 9th and add Kanter as well?

Why give up three firsts to move up a couple of places? As we have seen from the past, the draft is a crap shoot. You never know who is going to be a top NBA player. Look at last year -- the ROY was the number 11! You should only give up one draft pick plus compensation (vet, cash) because of this uncertainty. At least in most cases.

Every scenario is different. I agree with your post in some situations. I just think Jabari is a sure thing. I would roll the dice if it were me.

Because Burke is the best player on the team. Doesn't matter if he goes 5-15 in a game as long as he hits that last shot. Fourth quarter points >>>>>>>> points during the first three periods.

I should have remembered that. Burke is untouchable.........

unless you believe what Chad Ford said during the draft combine.

Jazz should seriously do a trade with Philly. Offer Burks, 5, 23 and warrior's 2017 1st rd pick (let's face it, they'll still be good by then) Parker should still be available at 3. We have to get Parker. Jazz should stop being cautious and start putting on the big boys pants and make a splash. It's now or never.

Just to move up from 6 to 3 it took the Jazz 3 first round picks when we got DWill. Once again we are in the second tier and trying to move into the first tier of players. Sure we might get lucky drafting at #5, but the price to move up is not that unreasonable.

Swap burks with kanter or burke and i will consider it.

I think giving up the 2017 pick is a little much as well. I would give up the 5, 23, and Kanter. They might do it, but the problem is that they already have Noel, and the player they would draft at 5 would likely be a big man as well, so they don't need Kanter. We could give them Burke, but they already have MCW. Burks just makes sense for them, but for us, it would be better to keep Burks than Burke or Kanter.

Why would the Jazz give up a higher seed pick plus Kanter to move back in the draft? That makes no sense.
