Draftday Trade Scenarios

I think giving up the 2017 pick is a little much as well. I would give up the 5, 23, and Kanter. They might do it, but the problem is that they already have Noel, and the player they would draft at 5 would likely be a big man as well, so they don't need Kanter. We could give them Burke, but they already have MCW. Burks just makes sense for them, but for us, it would be better to keep Burks than Burke or Kanter.

In this year's draft, you have got to give up a little more than usual to get what you want. Teams with the top 3 picks know this and will use it to their advantage. If the jazz offered the sixers - kanter, 5 and 23, the sixers will just consider it and pass. You have to sweeten the pot a little more with something extra.

Kanter, 5 and 23 are more than it would usually take. I doubt the Jazz would give up an unprotected future pick. Maybe they would throw in a couple of the 100 or so second rounders they have stockpiled, or a protected future pick, but there is no way they are going to throw in an unprotected one to swap picks right now.

That unprotected pick is gonna be in the twenties anyway. I'd still do it.

I could see Orlando perhaps drafting a PF. That is their position of need. Could easily go with Vonleh instead of Exum or Embiid. Draft day trade may not even be necessary.

PG is also a position of need for Orl, but conventional wisdom might say use their #12 pick to draft Ennis and use their #4 pick to draft Randle or Vonleh.

Our next year's unprotected 1st should have really high value. I don't see why it should be so impossible to move up. I can see a top 3 team not valuing Jabari the same as us. Packaging the 5th, the 23rd, and our next year's unprotected 1st would be quite the hall for a team. It's actually pretty risky for the Jazz. I'd do it, but I'm not even sure the Jazz would. As far as it looks, we could be terrible again. A few injuries could guarantee that.

Top three protected and I do this deal. But only for Wiggins.

Because Burke is the best player on the team. Doesn't matter if he goes 5-15 in a game as long as he hits that last shot. Fourth quarter points >>>>>>>> points during the first three periods.

This is why nobody takes you seriously.

Swap burks with kanter or burke and i will consider it.

I bet the farm on Jabari. If there's a chance to move up for him, you make every draft pick available between all of our 2nd rounders, picks this year, and pick next year.

Jazz should seriously do a trade with Philly. Offer Burks, 5, 23 and warrior's 2017 1st rd pick (let's face it, they'll still be good by then) Parker should still be available at 3. We have to get Parker. Jazz should stop being cautious and start putting on the big boys pants and make a splash. It's now or never.

Jabari is not worth that much. I think your overvaluing Jabari.

So you didn't get my sarcasm, or you really think a guy who shoots 38%/30% overall but hits an occasional game winner is a stud PG?

Trey's not being called a franchise player, star or a stud. It's still too early for Lindsey to give up on him for an unknown from half way around the world or another pg who can't shoot.

And where have I ever proposed trading him this year? I've already said if they draft Exum, it would make a nice 3 guard rotation with Exum, Burks and Burke. The trade would happen at the deadline or next summer. Hopefully Burke shows he has improved his shot. No one wants a guard who shoots 38%/30%, especially one who is short and slow afoot.

On the other hand, if an unbelievable deal did come about - i.e. one for an all-star, and that team WANTED Burke, you do it in a heartbeat. But that's the case with pretty much any player on the Jazz. Utah has ZERO all-stars. If someone is stupid enough to offer us one in a 2-for-1 deal, it has to be considered.

Here's your quote from the NewsFlash thread. That's the thread stating Trey won't be traded:

This is a business. If a GM can upgrade at ANY position, he'll do it.

Lindsey perhaps can upgrade Burke this year. But Lindsey won't, he just drafted him.

Looking to upgrade the team is the job of EVERY GM.
So Durant and Westbrook are going at it after their embarrassing loss. If OKC decides to trade Westbrook and we can give them Burke as a replacement PLUS another asset, Jazz don't do it because Lindsey can't trade a player he drafted last season?

I also said in the thread that the Jazz woukd have a great 3-man rotation if they drafted Exum. You conveniently didn't quote that one. Are you related to Trey or are you just blind to the fact he had a less than impressive rookie season?

Remember the Jazz' miracle season under Jerry? Who got COY? Hubie Brown. Look at that Memphis team. Solid from 1-10. The deepest in the league. But their ceiling was 50 wins and the 2nd round. Why? Because their "star" was a soft Pau Gasol and they had no other key leaders. Some of those players have gone on to have nice careers, even all-star appearances. But they never had a #1 guy.

If Embiid is drafted, Favors or Kanter become expendable. Draft Wiggins and Hayward can be had in a S&T. Or Burks can be traded. Draft a PF and Kanter might be dealt. We have ZERO, I repeat ZERO all-stars. How do you compete without any all-stars?

"Looking" and "doing" are two different things.

I believe Lindsey isn't even trying to upgrade Burke this year. If the phone rings, then that's a different story, but clubs aren't lining up to make Trey their starting pg. Trey has more value to the Jazz this year than anyone else, as worthless as you seem to think he is. I'll stand by my reasoning.

Exum/Burke/Burks is a different conversation, but I think that rotation makes less sense than drafting Gordon.

I think we're kind of in agreement. It was never my assertion that Burke was being actively shopped. DL is of course trying to upgrade the roster, but I think getting a SF is a bigger priority, followed by figuring out if Kanter and Favors can play defense together. I don't think Trey is worthless, I just think his ceiling is about middle of the league...if he can significantly improve his shooting.

My biggest concern with Aaron Gordon is that he's basically Andrei Kirilenko. Elite athleticism, good defender, high BBIQ, great motor, etc. But at the end of the day AK47 wasn't a player we could rely on to take us to the promised land because his offensive game never developed to the point where teams had to game plan against. I still have nightmares of all those Laker playoff series where the Lakers pretty much left AK unguarded as he was never a threat to score. I see Gordon following a similar career path.

For the Jazz, trading the 23rd pick and a player that has been given up on to move up in the draft is the doable thing to do. Who is the new coach? He needs to check in and arrange those kinds of things before the time comes. Draft is important this year. I bet most of them were waiting on the lottery results to pick their new jobs.
