In their prime, who are you guys taking?

I realize Dwight possibly hasn't hit his prime yet, so just take his most current numbers and either leave them there or assume that he'll get better. Your call, but please explain why in your post.

....I, at the present time, don't like either clown! Garnett certainly is the better, much better offensive player. But he's always angry, palms the ball with impunity, and thinks the world owes him a living. Howard is a clown, plain and simple! Can't hit a free throw to save his neck.....and will never be the offensive threat Garnett is. Personally, I'd rather have Jefferson! (Just kidding!)

In his prime, KG was a much more complete player. The guy irritates the dog**** out of me, but I give him the nod here without much hesitation.

I went with KG too. I think we have somewhat forgotten how good of a player he used to be when he wasn't knocking on the NBA retirement home doors.

Agreed. Nothing more to say.

I went KG as well. I forgot how good he was...his best year he averaged 23/13/6 with ~1.5 spg and bpg while shooting 50% from the field and like 77% from the line. Crazy numbers.

I would take KG out of his prime over Dwight in his prime.

I hate KG with every fiber of my being, but the guy competes and has heart. I can't say the same about Dwight, and the guy can't hit a FT.

I'll take KG because while Howard is a difference-maker at a more vital position (center vs forward), KG is a fierce competitor to the Nth degree, while Dwight at this point is more worried more about his marketability and public-perception rather than winning basketball games.

Looking past their statistics, it's important to realize that you're not winning a championship with either player as the alpha-dog. As great as they are/were in their primes - neither player is immune to the tightness we've seen great bigmen feel in the final minutes of a game. In Minnesota in '04 and even in Boston's playoff run in '08 - the whispers were always there that KG couldn't come through in the clutch - and KG was more than willing to defer to Sam Cassell in Minnesota and Paul Pierce in Boston in pressure situations...just like Howard routinely deferred to Hedo Turkoglu in Orlando's run to the Finals in '09.

Howard's arguably the most dominant bigman in the game but he hasn't transcended his position - the way KG who is one of the greatest defensive PF's in NBA history.
