there's a skit called Macedonian Cafe done by Key and Peele that talks about regional similarities in dishes between Albanians and Macedonians. It got taken down, but part of it can be seen here. "Mother bitches" = funniest thing of all time (my relatives say it all the time)

literally the most accurate video ever.

Did you try it with skimmings(kaymak, it's basically made of milk, sugar and rice powder) inbetween. Baklava is the sexiest dessert and I love it in all shapes and colors. Still love Turkish Delight more, though.
Of course it fits great! Slides through your throat like a piece of butter on a hot plate. Are you in Istanbul? Try Haci Bekir's kaymakli lokum.

I post therefore I am...

I forget which of y'all live in Istanbul, and which live in İzmir. I'll have to visit someday though.

I hear the women in Izmir are incredibly attractive.

also forgot to mention my mom making hallvë for "Bajram" (our word for Eid) is the ultimate tradition, more so than baklava. I think that's Turkish too.

Ahahaha this is awesome man. Every word is the same. Bayram, helva, baklava, börek, kaymak, kadayıf, lokum... Turkish is a phonetic language hence the letter difference. Pronunciation must be pretty similar.

I didn't know they had Kaymaklı Lokum. I am going there my first day-off. You can't imagine how happy this made me. :o

I sell Haci Bekir for a living I would know. If you were not in istanbul I would send you. But the kaymakli type is not fitting for teh road in those hell weathers.

we have Albanian family friends who make kadaif (I love this man, hahahaha, we've all had the SAME foods!!! This is nuts) but I've never really liked theirs! My mom doesn't make it, and I've never had it in Europe. I'll make sure to try some legit kadaif soon :)

Ever had the Levant version? It's called knafah, and it's one of the best things ever.

Pecans in baklava? Are you sure it's not walnuts? I love making baklava, and I might try it with pecans to see what it's like. I've made it with pistachios, walnuts, pine nuts, sweet cheese, and chocolate. But never pecans.

Is that really what it's called? Sweet cheese?

Not to break up your party here but my dad lived his first two years in Izmir. Doesn't remember it much but the pics are fantastic.

Here is how cheese looks inside Künefe:

And here is how it looks with Kaymak:

Heaven preserve me! I'm going to murder the first Künefe I see.

I went to the Hacı Bekir today and they told me that Kaymaklı lokum would come to the stores 2 months later. Really dissappointed, I have been waiting for this day, goddammit.

can't believe Eid is less than a month away. Wish I lived closer to the middle East (particularly Turkey).
