What do you mean? He had a little jump hook that was more effective and accurate than Rudy's. Now I know when people say some things on here, they are not speaking from observation. I saw Epke use that quite often (it was his only shot other than a dunk) -- and yes it was from close up, about 5-feet, but he almost always made it.

For me it comes to the question: what do we need now more when Rudy sits down - better rebounding or better rim protection? I would say the second that's why I voted Udoh.

Stop, just ****ing stop. Udoh scored 13.4 per 36 last year and that blew away any previous season. Dude was a nobody on offense.

They both suck on offense. One is a better defender and one is a better rebounder.

Really doesn't make much difference imo

Never said Ekpe was good on offense. Just saying Davis appears to be no better. And just stating facts when I say he had a jump hook that was effective close to the basket.

So? He is slightly better at a thing that is bad and that he might have done once every ten games.

Davis is a better finisher and that makes him a more capable offensive player.

We are parsing grains of sand here. My major point is that Epke is a better defender. I never extolled his offensive capabilities. I'm reserving my final assessment until I see more of Davis. I hope he is as good as some of you are saying.

I vote Willie Reed or Isaac Haas.
I was pretty disappointed with Udoh. He was two-time All Euroleague. But he can't shoot worth a damn. Davis didn't show much in preseason. I'll have to reserve judgment for now.

But definitely much weaker at the backup 5. That's where Favors was extremely valuable.

Everybody still fighting the silly debate of Ed vs. Ekpe when the real debate is Ekpe vs. Bradley.

True that. Udoh while under-rated by the rest of the NBA, and a terrific human being (Jazz DNA) who plays blue-collar ball was probably the best 3rd string center in the league last season.

Ed Davis on the other hand:

* Ed Davis was 2nd in ESPN’s Defensive Real Plus-Minus last year, behind only Rudy Gobert.

(From SLCdunk): Asked about what Gobert’s first thoughts on Ed Davis were, he quickly responded with, “He’s relentless, he doesn’t stop.” Gobert is right. When you look at Ed Davis as a rebounder, you see someone who has a motor that just won’t quick. Last season for the Brooklyn Nets he averaged 8.6 rebounds a game. That seems pretty good, then you take into consideration that the man only played 17.9 minutes a game. The man was gobbling up a rebound every two minutes he was on the court. He has no quit.

If that's not enough check out Dame Lillard's tweet from yesterday (which might hurt CJ McCollum's feelings):

Someone seriously mentioned Udohs post game? Let’s get one thing straight... the only positive thing Ekpe did on offense was pass... that’s it... the rest ranged from awful to effing terrible.

Ed gets us extra possessions which is good. I’m hoping his defense picks up. Ekpe was a great shot blocker and moved well on the perimeter. Ed’s real plus minus numbers were great last year but there is noise in some catch all defensive metrics and he has usually faired well in those categories. I think he will end up being just fine and I’m at peace with us having to play Bradley at backup 5 if need be. He’s played better and looks better out there.

In the future if we run with three centers on the roster I’d really love it if one of them could shoot. A Meyers Leonard curveball would be a nice wrinkle.

You can say whatever you want about me, but I NEVER lie. My purpose in starting this thread was to get other perspectives because I hadn't watched Davis much before and what I saw in pre-season didn't make me confident he was going to be what we thought we were getting. So the votes are in. I hope you're right.
