Embiid Out 4-6 Months

You take him if you're a GM for a franchise that can attract FA's. If he never plays, no biggie...you just go out and buy a replacement. He'd be a great pick for the Lakers at #7.

This.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him with the lakers.

That's my feeling.
Lebron has been very wishy-washy, with reports saying he's upset about Arison's lack of spending this past season to better defend the title. So the Cavs likely smell blood. This is their chance to show LBJ they have a team in place to contend. Irving has been promised the MAX and I think it was going to be a good sale to present Embiid as a bright prospect at the 5. Now the injury has changed all that. They need a healthy center and the best one available for sale is Favors.

I like Derrick. But as many have said, he just doesn't have any fire. He didn't show any evidence of being a defensive "stopper" and his offense is just ok. Favors + #5 is pricey for the #1, but it gets the Jazz a potential franchise player and #1 option (whether that is Wiggins or Parker). Jazz should do it. But man, if Dennis takes Wiggins and he isn't >>> Parker, Lindsey will need to enter the witness protection program.

Only Parker homers will be mad. I think the majority of Jazz fans want Wiggins over Parker.

So what did the doctor say?

Basically the chances of a regular Joe FULLY recovering from this exact injury are very low. Then he said you add the massive stress of NBA life on top of the average Joe and he said he'd advise any franchise to not take him at least in the lottery.

On top of that, Gordon asked that "say he DOES fully recover and beat the odds, is there a higher chance of re-injury with a situation like this?" And the doctor again said the chances are very low he fully fully recovers, but for argument sake, if he did, he'd be at a very high risk to re-injure it.

He also said that young people having an acute back injury is one thing, but a sustained back injury and then the foot is very worrisome to him from an overall health/longevity standpoint.

Really sucks for the kid.

I have to say that after further research, I've changed my mind about drafting Embiid. I just don't think it's worth the risk anymore…that foot injury is really bad.

To be honest, I'm a big Parker guy. Maybe I'm a homer? But even I admit that Wiggins > Parker.

However, I also believe Parker > The Field

If we have the 1st pick I'm gonna be disappointed if we take Parker. If we're drafting after and wiggins is gone but Parker is still available, that pick better be Parker. Taking Vonleh or Exum or Greg Oden ahead of Parker would be insane.

LOL.. I think an apology is in order? Wasn't it yesterday you were blasting me for not taking a 'risk' on Embiid without doing any research whatsoever?

There's a lot more information out today than there was yesterday.

So no, I'm not going to apologize for changing my mind.

On talent, he's the most obvious sure thing in the draft. I'm not a doctor so I can't assess the risk. But if it's reasonable that he can recover, then you have to roll the dice on him, or even move up a little to get him. That said, I won't cry if we don't take him.

Actually, I would go crazy if we didn't take him. He's just too good, and his ceiling is just too high. Practically speaking, it's a great risk for DL. If Embiid turns up lame, he can always say he went for the high ceiling guy whose body failed him, not his talent.

All I know is that kid, if he stays healthy, will be a top 5 player in the NBA.

Top 5 player in the league???LMAO

Am I the only one who would still take a chance on Embiid at 5?

- Back ? questionable
- Foot ? questionable
- Age ? questionable = Ceiling questionable

Are you for sure bro ? Trade Favors or Kanter + 5th Pick for Wiggins or go and draft one of Smart and Gordon. That´s about it...

Don't draft Embiid.

Raw and needs PT to figure out the game, but will never get it because of injuries. From what I've read, best case he becomes Andrew Bogut in terms of # of games played. Even with that, he will never have enough consistent PT to fully learn the game. If he drops to us at 23, of course I take him, but no way I take him within the top 10.

They say 4-6 months.
Won't be back until after Christmas, then it will be pushed to the all-star break. Then whichever team drafts him will say they're going to be very conservative with his recovery and he won't see NBA game time action at all. On a positive note, the year off will do wonders for his back.

Would be a fantastic pick for the Lakers. They're not going anywhere next year. Nash can keep Embiid company in the MASH wing at the Staples Center.

and we are going somewhere next year?
