Assuming the Jazz stay at 3 and neither Williams nor Irving fall, who is supposed to be worth the 3rd pick? There is no consensus anywhere about that. You act as if you know something no one else does, so let us in on the secret. Who is the franchise player at #3 that you'd pick?

Been watching the NBA combine on T.V., and I am not sold on Kanter. I don't believe Knight is worth the 3 pick either, so if Williams does not drop to us at 3 I trade down a couple of spots. Get extra value (maybe a draft pick in next years loaded draft) and get Knight at the 5th pick.

Listen, all these workouts and combines are worth maybe 5% of total evaluation at most. Folks like Podkolzine, Milicic, Skita did well, but they never accomplished anything in organized basketball, and even if they did well on the combine, it means very little. Kanter never player meaningful organized basketball. Now, the reason for it is that he wasn't eligible, so it's not really his fault, but it is indeed a fact. How do we know if he would be a star on Kentucky? Maybe he would, maybe he would just a rotation player there. The gamble here is just so huge. I mean why is Kanter a better prospect than Koufos would be - if KoKo sat his first year of College? Koufos actually has better size, put up better numbers at U18 junior Euro tournament, played for his national team. I would not be surprised if Kanter ends up a sliding down in the draft, just like Koufos was. At least we know Knight was the star of a team that he led to final 4 as a freshman. There is some certainty there and loads of potential that was demonstrated successfully against tough, mostly older and more experienced competition. Is that worth #3 pick? I don't see anyone else in the draft leading his team to great performance in his first year, while putting together solid numbers. If we trade down, we will end up with the scrub. At least Knight, while may not be worth #3 in most drafts, is probably top 5-7 in most drafts. After Williams, Irving, and Knight all the guys would typically be available in teens or below in most drafts. In this draft I see big drop-off after Irving and Williams, and even bigger drop-off after Knight, who is clearly 3d best prospect.

This.

I broke the tie :) I went with Kanter and I think the Jazz will as well if their choice is between these two. I don't see it as a close call either.

How can anyone possibly tell Kanter is a better passer than Al at this point? Based on highlights of his U-18 championship game or the 2010 Hoops Summit?

I have no clue if he is or isn't. But if that is his potential, to be a better passing Al Jefferson, that is a damn good player and totally worthy of the 3rd pick.

Hell, if Al could just learn how to pass I think it would buy the Jazz 3-5 more wins alone in a season.

I saw Knight play a lot and he did not seem like he was a good penetrater. He also has a high dribble for a point guard. He is a very thin point guard and I think teams will take advantage of him. He also didn't seem like he was very good on defense against quick guards. Regardless of whether we take Kanter or Knight, neither will be ready for extended minutes next year. I think DWill is the most NBA ready player in the draft.

Does anyone know when we will get heights for the Euro's.

If that's the case, that's a bit of a concern. Does anyone know - was Westbrook as athletic and as good a penetrater in college?

I saw a guy in YMCA who is young, big, and passes well. He also showed great low post game against YMCA competition. Perhaps he has potential to be better passing Al Jefferson too and is worth #3 overall pick?

This is what people seem to miss. Kanter literally has done nothing against any sorts of serious competition that is nearly comparable to NCAA. And people are willing to spend 3d overall pick for this guy over a freshman who actually led his team in NCAA to final 4 and #3 ranking. Every year there is bunch of nobodies who are MVPs of overseas tournaments. You haven't even heard of them. Yet one of them decided to come to US, have not player a minute again decent competition, and people are crazy about him. People need to get real. Leading a team to #3 in College ball as a freshman is a great accomplishment. U18 Euro MVP is like doing well in a 5 game state high school tournament.

You sir, are completely full of it and dont have a clue. Knight is known as a great penetrater and he will fill out. To say he is not that quick on defense is laughable. This is just anti b knight bull ****.

Wow that was a lot of typing just to say what I said. No disagreement here. Kanter you think should drop and you would take Knight at 5. Isn't that what I said?

Knight's a bit of a long strider which imo is not good as a point, in that it hurts your ability to quickly change directions, etc.

Just because your fast doesn't mean you know how to drive and penetrate. He is all right hand and averaged less than 5 assist a game. Knight was a liability on defense all year and he is only one year younger than Kemba Walker.

I watched every game that Knight played in last year, every minute. I also watched about a dozen of his high school games.

My assessment is he is NOT a defensive liability, but does lack an explosive first step. I wouldn't worry, at all, about his assist numbers (long explanation avoided).

He is a '10' on intangibles, but his lack of a first step would be a worry to me.

Box and Borat - why are you guys not impressed with Kanter's performance in the Nike Hoops Summit a year ago?

It's not that I wasn't impressed with that performance or his performance on U18 Euro tournament, it's just that these accomplishments do not tell much about the guy's NBA ability. Nike Hoops game is like a high school all star game, and U18 Euro tournament is another HS-like few game tournament. It's just nowhere near enough to gamble a high pick in the draft on. Not when you got a guy same age who actually did well against NCAA competition by taking his team to final 4. All while Kanter sat on the bench and lost a year of development. Like I said before, Koufus had better size, better U18 Euro tournament stats, did not lose a year of development, played for national team, had a good freshman year against NCAA competition. And he was late lottery-early 20th prospect. So is Kanter.
