Enes Kanter works out for the Jazz

I watched the Enes highlights. He looked alright on the offensive end and grabbed some rebounds, but he also appeared to be the biggest guy on the floor (not extremely smooth or athletic). I would like to see his defensive footwork. If he defends like Okur, no thanks. He may just be an early bloomer with a good touch around the basket. The NBA game might eat him alive.

I do agree you take BPA even if he's redundant. The Jazz, however, always draft for positional need, and they take the most offensively accomplished guy at that position.

This. I'd rather have an undersized Millsap who is in shape and has proven himself on this level and has some athleticism and skill.

The only way we're going to build a legit playoff team is drafting or developing an all-world player, currently there are 5-- Lebron, Kobe, Howard, Durant and Blake Griffin (I think Wade although he is still a top 5 overall player, is no longer all-world). Or building a solid team top to bottom offensively and defensively, and that means a solid center. Kanter is that solid center, not a guy you build a team around, but a guy who could be the starting C on a legit playoff contender... especially if he were sharing a front court with Derrek Favors.
Harrison Barnes upside is "the best player on a bad team" similar to Michael Redd, he has no chance at all-world status, and his consistency on both ends of the court is nothing to be excited about... that being said, I like Barnes more than anyone other than Kanter, but I think he'll spend another year at UNC (he is essentially Marvin Williams right now).

A world-class wing flanked by Jefferson/Millsap, Favors/Fess, Harris/Watson and Kirilenko/Hayward could contend. We'd need another shooter though depending on how Hayward continues to develop.

Has anyone seen confirmation that KOC did have a workout with Kanter?
If so what does this mean?
Seems like a player workout for a draft prospect this soon is not allowed.
Can Jazz or anybody sign Kanter to a contract right now because of his unique situation?
Why would Jazz have a special workout for him right now?
Lots of unanswered questions here.

Maybe the idea is long term? Maybe the jazz want build a team like OKC did that will be the beast of the league in a few years.

If you believe that Jefferson (25 years old) and Favors (19 years old) are the frontcourt of the future (which I personally think they can be , then it does not make sense to draft another center, who has a high risk to be a below average big man (the last true European center who worked out, if I remember correctly, was Vlade Divac).

It has been years since we had a quality shooting guard. We had that last year but we had to let him go to address a bigger need. Now, it's definitely a chance for us to get one for the future, whether it's through the draft or through a trade that includes the pick as a package. I do personally like Barnes. I think even if his upside is just a John Salmons or Michael Redd, it should help us tremendously.

You putting Griffin in there but not Rose or Wade is laughable.

Rose is not all world IMO. Although a very good player, he is on the Hype machine like CP3 a few years ago.

I'm surprised nobody has freaked out and lumped this thread into the disjointed 16-page draft thread. What else is there to talk about???

The more I read about Kanter the more I think he is going to be the pick regardless of wing needs. According to nbadraft, he is 6'11 now, in shoes at least.

Bigman with excellent size, strength and polish … Combines brute strength with a high skill level … Soft hands … Long arms and solid athleticism allow him to be a force in the paint … A tremendous rebounder. Plays with a high motor and enjoys contact … Has a strong frame and a high basketball IQ … Has a scorers mentality. Owns a diverse offensive game with the ability to use post moves and strength to score on his opponent or face the basket and knock down mind-range jumpshots … Has the strength to muscle through contact and finish … Smooth offensive game. Has a soft touch and excellent shooting motion … Good free throw shooter … Has legitimate center size. Measured 6-11, 261 lbs at the LeBron James Skills Academy in July … Possesses great dexterity and body control for a bigman … Coachable kid with a positive attitude and strong work ethic …

interesting fact: his dad's name is Mehmet

I don't even know where to start.

How about anywhere?

You think he is all world? Really? I mean, I know he is a strong MVP candidate this year, and has improved a ton this year (better supporting cast has helped), but for me to dub someone "All world" they need to have performed at a very high level for a few years... not just 3/4 of a season.

Griffin is a year or two out, but he is all-world. Rose and Wade aren't going to win any championships on their own. Griffin has the talent to propel a good team into contention. Rose and Wade can propel a very good team into contention

That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard, I can refute that point entirely using the name Gasol.

Utah doesn't need anymore bigs unless there going to trade Millsap for a sg/sf. Thats what the Jazz need to focus on right now. Let Millsap,Favors, and Jefferson grow together and sign Fez for like 2.5 mill for like 3 years. He would be a cheap bench big man. And let them develope into our bigs for the future.

You mean because Fes and Elson are so dominant?
There's a huge difference between "cheap" and "capable." Said goodbye to Fes, he gives Utah one good game of about 5 mins, then can't tie his shoes the next three.
