Enes Kanter works out for the Jazz

Chamberlain was amazing. He is the only player to score 100 points in a single NBA game or average more than 40 and 50 points in a season. He also won seven scoring, nine field goal percentage, and eleven rebounding titles, and once even led the league in assists. He is the only player in NBA history to average at least 30 points and 20 rebounds per game in a season, a feat he accomplished nine times. He is also the only player to average at least 30 points and 20 rebounds per game over the entire course of his NBA career.

If that doesn't make him simply awesome in any era you guys are effing crazy!!! I could care less about any argument put out there. This dude would DOMINATE in any era. PERIOD. Not only that but he was as big as Shaq. Dude was 7"1 and 275-300 lbs during his career. But way more athletic. Dude ran like a deer. If you don't believe that then your just jealous that he plowed 20000 smoken hot women while DOMINATING everything put in his path!!!!

I worked with Wilt at a charity event in 1991. He hit on every mildly cute woman (and some not so cute) who came within range, and he had sex with several including two who I knew well. I'm not exaggerating. Now that's dominance.

Not quite bro. Chamberlain was on some pretty good teams, and in some of those series he lost his team was actually favored to beat the Celtics. Contrary to popular belief Chamberlain did not play with crappy players or a crappy team.

Do these names sound familiar? Hal Greer, Jerry West, Elgin Baylor, Gail Goodrich?

No arguing that in some teams he had decent support but again IMHO overall Russell had better ( and lets not forget coach!). Which series you are referring to where Wilt's team was favored? If it is 1969 we need to remember that he got injured and did not play last six minutes of game 7 which may or may not have been deciding factor...Some blamed him, some blamed coach... anyway, good discussion.

The point you make in 1969 is iffy. There are different stories going around of Chamberlain not wanting to go back in, of him being hurt and not being able to come back in, and of the coach not putting him back in as they did not get along.

His team was favored a few years when he was with the 76ers as well as a few times with the Lakers.

He was such a douche that most of his teammates on every team did not like the guy. He had issues with multiple coaches and with multiple owners. When he played in Philly he lived in NY and so even though the rest of the team wanted to practice in the mornings, they practiced at 4pm so he would have time to get up and get there, and this is over multiple years. The Coach and owner asked and begged him to move to Philly but he would not. He was the biggest diva.

He could sure play ball, but not getting along with most of his teammates may have had a lot to do with his teams losing a lot. Fans in his "own town" started calling him "loser", I think it was Philly.

That quote a few posts ago I had one of his teammates, Jerry West, talk about how great Bill Russell was and how he was the best. Sure Chamberlain was great, but I can guarantee you most of the coaches and players thought Russell was a better player. I really don't think Russell had that much more talent around him than Chamberlain did, if he had more at all.

That's just an excuse for Chamberlain's losing the big games most of the time.

That I can certainly agree with. He was not the best teammate to be around for sure.

I do find it interesting that his teams really started to contend when a coach convinced him to play more team ball and he shot less, passed more and played better defense. That year his ppg dropped to 24.1, but his fg% went to .683, 24.2 rpg, and apg 7.8. He passed much more than he used to and that was one of the 2 years his team won the championship.

That is pretty impressive to shoot almost 70% over 82 games and the other impressive thing was the almost 8 assists per game. As far as I know he is the only one with a quadruple double with points, rebounds, assists and blocks.

He was a beast, I just can't get over that he only won the big games when he actually played some team ball. You can't be the best ever if you can't play with a team in this game no matter how dominant you are. This is why I lean towards Russell being better, he could dominate and he also played well with his teammates.

I find it funny how the Celtics used to play "Hey Bill" defense. Anytime they needed help they would call out "Hey Bill" and he would come double or help, and was so long and fast and athletic that he would get back to his own guy before they could get the ball to his guy. I think awesome defense is pretty impressive too, it just doesn't light up the record books like scoring does.
